Received my new 500mW green laser. Tried to light some matches no go.
It is rated as a class III A laser. A rating which is less than 5mW.
I guess I got ripped off eh.

I just bought a 1000mW green laser from Aliexpress, this one is rated Classs III B.
I'm thinking this might be another waste of $$$. Lol.
Thank you for the info.
3 times a charm...

DHgate... They're garbage. I've never bought from them, that's a good thing. I have wasted precious money on junk from Rayfoss and LaserPointerPro (another two sites NOT to buy from!).
And AliExpress... They're junk! Haven't you seen their ridiculous claims? Take a look at this one: focusable high power blue laser pointers 500000mw 50w 450nm burning match/paper/dry wood/candle/black free shipping-in Laser Pointers from Office & School Supplies on Aliexpress.com | Alibaba Group

That's hilarious.
I'll pass off the "500mW" garbage to my brother for a Xmas gift. Lol!

Thanks again!

You didn't say how much you paid for those, keep in mind that a green laser of 500mW to 1000 mW will usually cost in the $500 to $1000 range. You can buy really cheap ones that are up to about 100 mW.

Hi Alan. I paid about $20.00US for the 500mW laser. It came with a charger, a 3000mAh 3.7 Li-ion battery, a single charger and a really nice box.

The 1000mW laser I bought before I joined this site was about $10.00US /Laser only.

  More Chinese bull shit, you can never trust what they claim. Those prices should have been a clue. They may be anywhere from <5mW on up, if your really lucky then up to 100mW. There is also no quality control on those lasers at all, sometimes they are DOA and sometimes they last for days and sometimes you get a real good one that will last for years.

I would be careful with that unit. It may be brighter than you think. Can you see the laser beam pretty well in a room that isn't completely dark? You generally have to focus it almost so it comes apart and be about a half foot away from your target to try and light a match. Try darkening the match head with a black magic marker. The focus point is VERY narrow to where you will notice it starting to burn. If it can burn it will be VERY bright and you shouldn't look at the spot without glasses.

Bullshit Chinese claims really piss me off. I bought some crazy mAh rechargable Li-ion batteries for my cree flashlight (another disappoinment) only to find out they last for about 10 minutes, no way near their claims.

I guess you get what you pay for.

Geez I just want to light some matches and pop some black ballons with a laser. Lol.
Sta has directed me in the right direction.

Did those batteries by any chance have "Fire" in the name? Those are the ones you can't trust the stated mAh, although it is mainly the Ultrafire that are the worst, and whatever you buy, stay away from those generic blue ones that have no brand name.

Yep UltraFire with different mAh values, it seems the higher the mAh value the lower the battery would last. a real slap in the face.:tsk:

The laser is super bright! Doesn't the 500mW claim and the Class III A rating contradict each other...
I tried your recomendations, I am unble to get a fine focus. It is really blinding.

@Faker-They can get away with it because they claim <500mw. Not 500mw. And of course 5mw is less than 500mw.:shhh::yh:

Thats the thing, they don't. It's not until you get the laser that you see the less than sign.:yabbmad:

Does the spot look bigger when it's shined across the room at a wall? If that laser is a 302 (looks exactly like a 302 I have) I tried on mine and the focus point was about 3-4" away. Try a piece of black electrical tape to find out where the focus point is. If you can't smoke electrical tape it's not going to light a match. If you get lots of smoke it should at least light a black colored match head.
