A BluRay DVD burner will have a 405nm laser diode in it, probably another IR or red laser diode too, I'm not really up on this subject enough to direct you more than I already have, but others here are and might chime in. Might see if you can find a stack of old CD or DVD burners cheap somewhere, maybe a computer repair shop, sometimes the diode blows, sometimes the mechanism has a problem, but you can probably find some good used ones which are slow to todays standards cheap.

Read up on safety first before messing with these laser diodes, get some laser rated safety goggles if you do end up doing this.

You need a special tool and a vise to press a diode in a module. You can also buy the modules from the AixiZ web site: www.aixiz.net you can use the back part of the module to press a diode but it's better to have the diode press tool, they come in 3 sizes. You can buy them and most anything else you need here: Survival Laser USA Home DTR's Laser Shop also sells the modules in all 3 sizes: https://sites.google.com/site/dtrlpf/

Thanks. When I get a DVD burner diode I'll get a module for it. How much voltage do these require? I'm guessing not way too much. And what driver do u suggest that would fit a small budget? :)

search ebay. the voltage and current required is different for different diodes. Just use the search term "burning laser diode". You should be able to find lots of them, even kits. PM me please with an email addy if you don't mind, I'd like to make you aware of some of the safety issues as well as make sure your dad knows what you are planning. It appears you are under 18, this opens up a can of worms for me personally.

What model of drives do you got? I have some experience with DVD-RW diodes, maybe I can help too.
