The postive is the pin that is conected to the case (case positive)

if you look down on the pins 2 will go into what looks like a black hole and one (positive) will be the same colour of the case at its base.

Look down at the pins face the positive towards you and the negative will be the right hand pin.

Hope this helps.

Ok im sorry but i honestly had a hard time understanding that... The diode is a 300mw 808 IR diode... The 2 pins with the black around them are the 2 bottom pins... can you tell me which is which?

OK, you have 3 pins...yes?

2 at the bottom have black around them, 1 at the top doesn't...Yes?

If so, then the pin on the left is negative & the pin at the top is positive.

The other pin is not used.

Just to make sure you are aware that it will be invisible to the eye and extremely dangerous to your eyes should you go looking into it.

Good luck with your project.

Yeah, Out of curiosity, It will be able to do basic things like pop ballons and such at 300mw

If you focus the light, and your target absorbs enough of the IR, you should have no problem popping balloons (and causing major retinal damage - I guess you have goggles though).

Nope IR is way to week to pop baloons and light matches you should stick with visable lasers, your eyes will thank me later ;)
