wait are 405s that high normal now? I know we have 16x burners now , but just out of curiosity I'm wondering this as I have a 4 year old 12x that runs just shy of 500mw.

I thought 1 watt was the around the upper limit?

Are people really getting over a bit of a watt out and decent life?

or is it still just luck now?

No not normal now, just luck plus dangerously overdriving the 16x BDR-209 it can reach 1.2W. Maybe he has both an efficient diode plus it's over driven. Normally you shouldn't go for over 1W. If you drive it at 600mA you may get just under 1W or at 650mA maybe just over 1W, individual results will vary, if you push it to 700mA or more it might not last long.

If you actually have a 1.2W 405nm--go back to/contact the guy made it for you and ask to buy a replacement lens or a better lens.

It would have to be custom made as there are no commercially made 1.2W 405nm hand held lasers available --not that I can find anyway.

maybe OP meant 445 as that just seems too high. unless he got a superfreak 16x.

and you thought a class IV laser at 405nm would be a good first laser?
