Default 4.8W 465nm laser66 pen build (x-post)

(I hope the x-post and this section of the forum is correct. My apologies if not! I'm happy to move it where it needs to be.)

Super excited that I just got this working! I've been on a binge lately of building stupidly powerful lasers into these laser66 pen hosts (I absolutely love these things!). I personally love the form factor of these pens, and the more power I can jam into them, the better.

This build came out of a request from user BobMc -- he wanted a 3W laser, but I thought I could do him 2 better

Here are a couple quick videos I took of the thing in action along with a picture. Please pardon the bad quality and my dirty hands -- they're covered in thermal paste from the build.

Let me know if y'all have any feedback! The next step is to add an indicator LED to this guy (but I don't want to take him apart!).

(By the way, I'm working on a big post with the 5 or 6 laser66 pen builds I've done recently. Be on the look out!)

THATS SIMPLY ABSURD... I LOVE IT! It must be crazy in person seeing that much power from a pen. But tell us this, how fast does that thing overheat?

You know, I'm kind of amazed. I recently made a 1.4W 462nm that would overheat after about 7 seconds. This 4.8W can run for about 20 seconds before it gets decently warm -- it can definitely run longer, but I'm trying to be conservative at first until I get a better handle on how this thing runs.

Still, 20 seconds of 5W is more than enough time to do whatever you were trying to do :beer:

If you're referring to duty cycle, around 15 seconds. Actual lifetime of the diode, well, as long as I don't try to push that duty cycle, I don't see why this won't last years! Admittedly, I don't know the exact lifetime of these diodes, so if someone better versed wants to chime in...

445s have a lifetime of about 10,000 hours, usually. I think that this would be simillar
