Hello all,
Thanks for the great information found on LPF. Ive been a lover of lasers for a while but have never owned one. My friends have an Artic 1w and a krypton 500 mW from Wicked Lasers that I enjoy using but I have saved some spare money so its time I get my own! I don't feel WL are really worth the $ my friends spent so I have been reading and learning about lasers.

I have decided to buy a laser from Sci-fi lasers. I am having a very hard time deciding which one. My choices are between the 300 mW green and the 2-2.4W blue.

My favorite laser color is without a doubt green. I love the crispness of the beam and of coarse how bright they are but the 2W blue is about the same cost and I would imagine very bright. You all could help me decide if you could give me your opinion on which beam would be more impressive. The 300 mW green or the 2w blue?

:thanks:

2 watt blue will be very bright and be able to burn. The 300mw green can burn and is super bright too. What do you want them to do? I would go with the 2 watt. But make sure you have eye protection and don't be stupid with it.

what aspects of the beam impress you most? divergence? thin/thick diameter? burning ability/ focus ability? what do you want most out of your laser? both the ones you mentioned will have incredibly visible beams at night, though one burns really well and one, not so much.

name some features you hope for and we can recommend better for you

if you like minty green better than lime green, consider a 520nm. they are better in many ways than 532nm lasers, and many prefer the color, which is nearly as bright mW to mW

btw it's of course, not coarse. coarse is a different word. sorry for grammer nazi stuff. one thing is for sure, for the amount your friends paid for their wicked lasers, you could have probably at least 1.5 times as many lasers. you'll need correct safety glasses. tell your frinds to get some too if they don't. (I hope they do). lasers are quite dangerous and conspicuous. think twice, thrice before you lase

Thanks for the help.
I'm not very interested in burning things. I more enjoy using them on our property at night. Using them to point to stars and such. Mostly I just enjoy looking at them in the sky. Its fun to laser far distances as well. Clouds are fun to play with. As far as beam type I like thin tight beams.
Thanks for the warnings. I am buying safety glass's and will use them. My friends have some but haven't been using them. I'm going to let them know that the reading I did here really made me see how stupid we've been to not wear them.
Cheers

for what you just described, the 300mw green sounds almost too powerful, but i get it, you don't wanna whip that thang out vs the WL units and feel less than :p The 300mw green will be super bright (my >400mw green looks noticeably brighter than my 1.7W 445, and as far as pointing at clouds it dominates over my ~3W. The 532nm beam kills the multimode 445s as far as divergence is concerned (so good for clouds :D)

532 dot = . 445 dot = |
