CHAUVET HURRICANE H-700 FOGGER H700 FOG/SMOKE MACHINE - eBay (item 390168046300 end time Jun-08-10 08:54:25 PDT)

I'm looking around for future reference and I was wondering if $25-$50 was a decent price to pay for a fog machine just to smoke a room enough to have fun with lasers...I thought maybe someone here might have bought this one on ebay, or maybe that old $25 one from lowes during Halloween. I see some machines go for >100-200 dollars, but i figured these are for people that wish to blast a whole stage with fog...I'm just looking for a single room.

Also, Do fog machines have a sent? I notice they're water based fog solutions...I figured it would be fine to smoke my room a little, and when finished, just vent it out of my window. If theres any strong sent that can be left behind...It would be best outside. However, My brother has a toy train set that smokes and that stuff doesn't smell prity.

Anything under $50 for a smoke machine is pretty good and definitely worth it in my opinion. It will REALLY enhance your laser experience, since you will see the beam like never before.

Basically any one will do fine since you are just filling a small room with smoke, but investing closer to $50 may get you one that lasts longer, looks better and is more efficient.

The scent is slightly sweet, but not very powerful or unpleasant at all. It will disappear once you air out your room.

Sounds good. Any brands you might recommend? Are hurricanes / American DJ's usually good for long-lasting foggers?

Any size should work for me...My room is larger than most peoples (that I know of) rughly 15ft wide...20ft long..But I saw some tiny ones can do 1500 cubic feet a minute, plenty...

I don't have that much experience with different brands.. but as long as they aren't complete garbage, they will easily meet your requirements.
I would just go for whatever looks like a decent price for decent power, and of course from a reputable seller. Around 700W will give you a nice quick smoke cloud.

The most important thing IMO is the fog liquid used - if it is bad quality, it will gum up the fog machine after some time.
One of the best fog liquids I know of is called Froggy's Swamp Fog Juice.

When I get my ZVS driver working. I will open up this machine and try to get an idea of how they do it, and see if i can improve my design before I make it. But the tut will be soon. Trust me on that!!

Mine is simply called, "The Fog Machine". They used to sell it at Wal-mart for $40, we got it for 20 at a yard sale. I don't know if they still make it, but the included solution looks like this:

It works as well as I need it to, but I spent about 2 hours in a fogged room the other month, and I had really bad throat irritation the entire weekend. I'm not sure if it's related but... I'm never doing that again.

I have the exact fogger you linked to and it's a great fog machine. It's my second one after my friends fried my first one by running it dry for hours at a party.

As far as smell, once the fog is gone, so is the smell. The fog doesn't bother me but some people don't like the smell when it's thick fog.

The smell also changes with the solution, and you don't usually have to use the same solution with the same machine.
