Chinese New Year guys. This year it's 1/26/2009. The celebration often lasts plus minus two weeks around the date, depending on family traditions. So server goes down, no one around to reset. This is why I avoid ordering anything from China during this period. Things should pick up toward the end of the second week of February.

This seems to happen periodically and is nothing to worry about, just a pain in the butt. I have a order in too, and couldn't access their site for nearly a whole day. My stuff is still "pending" after one full week, this is probably because of the Chinese lunar new year holidays over there. We will all get our stuff, remember that DX is not known for extreme speed. We'll see it sometime in February ...

Guys,

This is bad. Very bad! Hollyday or not, their website should be accesible. Now, i have no doubt that DX is using unprofesional design for their services and there, wasn't just a dns problem. How can you imagine that when we are on hollyday (i am talking here about my company), our public web service to be unreacheable just because nobody can do a cold reset to one of our failed server? Or, to instruct our clients to try to access other server (www2)??!! No, this is impardonable and is not the way things going on!

Professionals are using clustered services - minimum 3 tiered level network design (1st level used for load balancing, 2nd used as www farm servers, 3rd used as storage NAS or SAN) with full redundancy and failover domain. Does it mean that even anyting is happen with one ore more of our equipments, nothing is visibile to outside (just like google, yahoo and other companies is driving their services).

At DX side, seems to be a very very lame infrastructure. Unbelivable for me how is possible to continue to keep it as bad as is, as time as their business is generating milions dollars. And of course, my concern seems to be founded. With this design, everything is possibile. Who knows if someday, we will be announced to contact DX because "is a problem with content" of one of our pending orders (because they loose data) or other similar problem. I'm not so worried about my credit card details too, because they don't keep all eggs in the same basket (clever decision to handle payments using paypal)...

we will se...

regards,
alx

ps: anyway, delivery speed is not so problematic as time as they are keeping it at a resonable period (2-4weeks). 2 months is a little to much ... probably is an exception...

This is an update on their website. DX

Dear valued customers,
The Chinese Lunar New Year is around the corner. In the greater Chinese regions this is seen as the most valuable time of the year -- just like Christmas in the West.
DX will be observing the holiday: customer support team will be temporarily unavailable between January 24th, 2009 to January 30th, 2009. Customer service will fully resume on January 31st, 2009.
Hong Kong Post and the Chinese Customs will also be temporarily closed during the holiday. Because of this, DX shipments will be temporarily paused between January 24th, 2009 to January 28th, 2009. DX warehouse and all shipments will resume on January 29th, 2009.
Live postal tracking information for orders shipped between and a few days before and after these dates will likely be processed and shown in the postal system until around January 31st, 2009.
To minimize the impact on customers, DX staffs will work with maximum efficiency processing shipments and CSE support tickets before and after the holiday.
Yours sincerely,
Tiffany

dear iskor12,

are you working for DX? if no, do you understand what i said above or you are trying to minimize impact of my words? www and www2 is a crap of DX. PROFESSIONALS, ARE NOT USING WWW, WWW1, WWW3, WWWcrap, etc. THEY ARE USING ONLY WWW (and many servers inside CLUSTER, all of them acting as one entity, absolutely transparent to customers). did you accessed express at some time or other www.google.com and www123.google.com? NO! maybe, now you understand better!

And again, for those who want to read: there was NOT JUST A DNS problem. Was a DNS problem (see a possible cause on page 1) plus other severe one! Just reachability of www2.dealextreme.com at the same time when www.dealextreme.com was down, confirm that DNS is working for that domain AND THERE, there is no cluster/failover/redundant services (no relationship between www and www2). Experts know what i mean. There is just an improvisation which make tings working somehow! And that's the problem: "somehow"! Why? because i don't like head aches ...

No, I don't work for them. I am also not trying to minimize the severity of what you said. I am just posting what DX had on their website to hopefully answer some of the questions on here. I understand what you are saying and I completely agree. :)
