serial number C005858, part number 20-05914.
I finally got 2 of these and was wondeing if I can disassemble the module and replace the original laser with the one I got out of an 8x dvd burner right onto the little driver circuit and push it with either 6 volt alkeline battery or a power supply from an old computer?
I appreciate any suggestions/tips etc as I am very noob to this hobby

Thanks!

The diode from your 8X burner will be less power than the diode they use in the modules.

What power were the modules rated at? in mWs.

Yes, the modules are rated 5mW(the ones from DX) I dont have a clue what the rating is on the diode from the DVD Burner.
I can dig thru Deal Extreme again and give a link if you peeps want.....

Thanks

Unfortunatly I live in the USA and was told I cannot order the 'burning' laser modules.
Just to be clear, the laser diode I got from my DVD burner will not 'burn' anything after I put it on the driver curcuit in the Axiz module from Deal Extreme module? (unsoldering the 5Mw diode and resoldering the dvd-burner diode where the 5Mw was)

Thanx for the replies!

You CAN order burning modules, most members here have ordered countless lasers from o-like, lazerer, and other chinese based laser companies without a single one being confiscated by customs, which is still a possibility (but I don't know anyone this has happened to).
No, that 5mw driver is set at a current to make 5mw of red laser light, a new diode won't change that.
I suggest looking up some laser build basics (such as the one in Tech_Junkie's signature), and consider buying a laser from the Buy Sell Trade section here.

You CAN order burning modules,

This is correct. It is legal to import modules, and lab units. You cannot import pointers over 5mW. But, except for some Wicked Lasers products, we have an ultra high success rate importing high power lasers.

If you do get a high power unit make sure you get protective eye wear. High power lasers can blind you before you blink. It can also do eye damage to other people, and animal. You always have to respect the unit, and watch where you point it.
