I am done with my Custom Blu-Ray laser pen! It is running a PHR diode clocked at 95mW with my laser meter. Anyhoo, I have never really been a fan of laser pointers that look like flash lights. So I made my own pen laser out of Home Depot stuff. Check it! Side mount button! ;D

Has anyone else ever made a completely custom host?

Exactly what parts did you use for the host body and end caps?
I have a Home Depot near me and would like to see if I can find the same tubing and caps.

Looks like you took a WL Core apart adjusted the pot, re-focused and added the PHR diode.

Sure, here are the links for the pipe, and the plug. You can buy the pipe in smaller lengths at the store. I used this paint and it works great! just make sure you let it dry for 18 hours before you handle it. Here is a pic of the inner workings.

(it's 3/4 inch pipe not 1/2 inch)

I drilled out the plastic dowel to fit a DX clicky and glued it in place. The lasers is case negative. The end caps are just kinda snugly wedged in but can be easily removed to change the batteries. 3 cr2 batteries make up the 9v for the Rkcstr driver. I made a steel button from the rails that lasers sleds slide on. I cut them with a Dremel and sanded and buffed it smooth and carefully glue it the clicky after the dowel is slid into place and the holes line up.
It's wasn't that hard to make and it is so nice. My friends don't believe I made it!

So go for it. The most expensive parts were the batteries. All in all, besides the batteries, $15-$20 bucks max.

If you look at a real CORE, you can see that it is smaller than a new wish style green, but from the pictures, it is obviously bigger than the new wish style, so it is impossible that it is a CORE, and also you can not use the stock driver, as it is for a IR diode if it was really from a CORE.

Yes that is very smooth! :D I made two custom hosts machined from aluminum, but not nearly as clean as yours.

The links work but it seems the Home Depot site is down right now. :-/

It kinda looks like this.

The pipe is just 3/4 inch pipe. :p
Bring a cr2 battery with you when you buy it to make sure it fits.

You will need a pipe cutter to make the clean cuts.

Nice build!

I have also made my own pointer host on a lathe, I havent had a chance to do anything with it yet, and dont plan to for a little while, stupid laws :-X
