So I just got a new 5mw greenie in the post from DX today: https://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.10092

and it takes CR2s, but the battery that came with the laser is a bit different to the ones my charger takes and also came with although they are supposed to be compatible: CR123 charger & 2 x CR123 500 mah Li-ion batteries on eBay (end time 21-Sep-09 21:23:42 BST)

From the charger instructions:
912-cr2-04.jpg

CR2
26mm long
15.25mm wide
3.0v
800mAh

CR123
33mm long
16.5mm wide
3.0v
500mAh

Can anyone tell me if it will work for the CR2 that came with the laser, or will I have to get a new one? Can anyone recommend a charger if so?

I'm guessing "yes" since the charger is only rated for 500mAh?

I don't suppose anyone knows where I could get some CR2s, preferably in the UK?

Ask the Seller...

If it charges a 3 volt lithium battery it doesn't matter how
big it is as long as it fits in the charger...

My charger is no good for the CR2s apparently :(

Anyone know a source for good quality cells/chargers?

Hey!

For really cheap, you can get two rechargeable CR2s here:
Rechargeable 3V CR2 800mAh Green 2 Packs [E0111] : BestOfferBuy.com, Buy DVD, Shop for PC accessories, Discount MP3 Players, Bargain Deal for Surveillance Equipment, Cheap R4 for NDS, X-sim Unlock

And a charger:
CR2 Battery Charger [E0397] : BestOfferBuy.com, Buy DVD, Shop for PC accessories, Discount MP3 Players, Bargain Deal for Surveillance Equipment, Cheap R4 for NDS, X-sim Unlock

The charger looks low of quality, but trust me, it works perfectly and gets the job done right!

I have bought both of those from Bestofferbuy and I haven't been disappointed. I took this to Europe with me on vacation so I can charge some of my lasers and it also worked. Worked meaning, in the USA power outlets have an output of 110, in Europe its 240 or 220.

The charger also has a little spacer thingy so you can also fit CR123s to!

Want me to show you a few pictures of it?

I could be wrong here, but from what I understand about CR2 rechargeable batteries, they are 3 volt batteries that charge up to 3.6 volts, and require a charger that is specifically for the CR2. (unless your charger is designed to charge both types)

At full charge it is 3.6 volts.

Other Li-Ion batteries, such as an RCR123, are 3.6 volt batteries, which are at 4.2 volts when fully charged.

Here is a China source for the CR2 batteries and charger:

Batteries: DealExtreme: $3.82 Rechargeable 3V CR2 800mAh Green 2 Packs

Charger: DealExtreme: $5.48 CR2 Battery Charger

I got from DX a charger that has a switch on the side for 3.0 or 3.6V lithium cells. Very useful as I have both 3.0V CR2's and 3.6V CR2's ...

Thanks for all the replies and info.

It's not worth finding CR2s with protection then (assuming they exist)?

I may go with a charger + 2x CR2s for £17 that the ebay seller I got my original charger from says he can get me. I asked for some specs and a rough ETA so just waiting to hear back...

Hey Jay...

there are actually 2 types of CR2 batteries... one is the 3.0 Volt
and the other is a 3.6volt...that charges to 4.2 volts...
I got mine off eBay with the appropriate charger for under $18.00
shipped..

http://cgi.ebay.ca/Ultrafire-CR2-Charger-2x-3-6v-Rechargeable-Battery_W0QQitemZ370155849323QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item562f02066b&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

Those are the ones I use in all my red 200mW Dildas to be sure
they output at least 200mW... (got one that does almost 250mW)...

No wonder it's confusing!

That's strange that they have two different CR2 rechargeable voltages...

Mine are UltraFire CR2 rechargeable batteries that say 3.0 volt 800mAh on the batteries, and they are about 3.6 volts at full charge.

Do yours say 3.6 volts on the battery? And what capacity?

Some great info on this thread, thanks for everyones input!

Does anyone know if the charges sold by DX are ok with 240v AC?

Also, what about chargers sold in general that come with the higher end portable lasers, like the CNI PGL-IIIC that should hopefully be finding it's way to me sometime in the near future? ;)

They are marked 3.6Volts at 600mAh... I also have the ones you have
that are marked 3.0Volts 800mAh...
Kinda makes sense since they are the same volume....

@rangedunits.... what do you mean they heat up...
Did you mean... when you put the batteries in the oven..????

@Greendream... those are questions to ask the seller...

That will have to be my last resort Jerry :)

I'd better get some sleep... my laserbee could/should be here in just a few hours time! :D
