CR123 vs 16340 quick question (lack of volts)

Hey so this is a question or concern I have from a friend. I know the difference between the lithium and li-ion batteries BUT if 2x CR123's were put into a laser that took 2x 16340's would the lack of ~1.5V damage the driver or diode? Im hoping since its under powered the answer will be no. I know if it was over powered then yeah most likely it'd kill the driver or diode.

Thanks in advance, my buddy is really nervous and I'm quiet curious myself. Im hoping I can relay good news to him

lower than intended voltage won't harm it, it just may either not power on at all, or be weaker than at normal voltage.

Ok good, thats what i was thinking but never ran into this problem so figured id ask. This will def help put his mind at ease

He said it may have flashed on quick but it was so fast it was hard to tell if it happened or he imagined it lol i know the feeling when you are so excited you cant remember what happened :)

Based on that i told him that i figured it flashed and then didnt have the power needed to make the diode lase. He should have 16340's in on monday so my fingers are crossed that everything is still A-Okay

As long as its within the input voltage spec of the driver it should be fine.
