CNI 450nm laser pointer

hey everyone

Laura from CNI laser said they have a new type of blue laser pointer at 450nm - 30mW.

in the attached screenshot, 450nm 30mW is at the left.

447nM 300mW is in the middle

447nm 5mW is on the right.

CNI would like to know if people are interested in the new 450nM laser pointer. The output can be lower than 5mW for it if people would rather have lower power.

Single mode or multimode?
Price range would be good too.
Does CNI ship pointers greater then 5mw into the US?
 
If it runs on AAA's, I'd be down for getting one... :D

Are these actually different diodes, or are they just binned 445's? I already have one 445 that measures right at 450 on the spectrometer.

If they're different diodes that have better beam specs (dot instead of line) a smaller emitter, and better divergence... I might be game, depending on price.
 
Same here. 450 vs 445-7 just isnt very big of a gap. 465+ though...

Intresting, specs sheet says <1mRad.
I'll ask them for prices.

In the pic cold showed it looks like it has a more "round" dot than the 445 diodes we use....and i dont think they used correction optics..
 
I wonder if these use the same 3.8mm diodes that rhd discovered in the pico projectors. Well. From the same original diode source. Not saying CNI is harvesting diodes heh.

I wonder if these have the same wavelength characteristics as the 445s? Because I know that 5nm CAN make a significant difference (see 589 vs. 593.5), but is it really 450nm as opposed to 445nm? Because I know these 445nm diodes are advertised as anywhere from 445-455nm.
 
It's not very noticeable at all in the blue range.. I can 'slightly' tell the difference between 440nm and 450nm diodes (one of the upsides of owning a spectrometer. I can test all the 445 diodes I get :D ) by looking at the beam, but not by looking at the dot. the 440nm beam will be 'slightly' more purplish.

How noticeable a 5nm difference is, depends on where in the spectrum it occurs. In the blues, it's not really noticable. It's not in the reds either. No way anyone could tell 660 from 665 without a spectrometer. It's easier to see difference in color in the middle of the visible spectrum, than it is at the edges.
 
Oh, that's really interesting. I guess that makes sense though, considering that most of our cones are in that part of the spectrum.
 
It most likely uses the OSRAM PL 450 diode just like the O-Like 450 50mw laser. These appear to have dropped in price, and they may now be in mass production, If anyone knows the story feel free to share it.
