Wouldn't they melt if they get to hot?

I don't smoke but I'm pretty sure they're thin plastic.

I don't smoke either, but I think he means a single-cigar carrying case which I'd think are made of metal.

Why not? As a youngster, I built (among other things) a 5V power supply into a band-aid case...

Smart ass....

Anyhow, the host is only limited by the imagination of the laser builder. I say give it a shot, would be nice to see one even in glass...just don't drop it =P

I know I should not pick on the noobs- but could not resist-perhaps there is some T_J in me!! ;) Actually when I got my first 100mW red module- wanting to seem the beam without delay- took a paper tube from a roll of tinfoil and put three fatty 'D' cells in it and a wire and taped the whole affair together with duct tape-- took all of 15 min.- later redid it with a piece of pvc drain pipe- and a switch from a pc PS- still that way today(4 yrs later) the batts BTW last for over a year!! I call it my nightstick/laser cop special. ---------------m<(*u*)>m--hak

I bought a cigar case to use as a host but ended up padding the inside and use it to carry my RGY laser around.

The downside to using it for a host is that it slides together rather than having a screw on cap but this is not insurmountable.

i will let the red text and peoples own imagination be the joke

lol .. that one made me laugh

I was thinking of making a plexiglass tube host. just need to run a thin translucent wire to the negative.

but the cigar cases that are made of a conducting material would work.

If its the right size for the batteries and module, why not?

For something low-power it'd work, but i suppose most cigar tubes are too thin to spread the heat decently on more powerful versions.
