Hello all.

NB.: See my new more compact build with these components here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/d...-turning-dichroic-mounts-pic-heavy-72973.html

I found a austrian site selling very cheap aluminum in bars cut to measure: CNCShop.at - Mechanische Komponenten und Schrittmotortechnik

As an example they sell 4x4x10cm solid alu block for only 4.77 Euros (Rohmaterial, Alu Vierkant, Zuschnitt: - CNCShop.at).

They also have alu brackets for holding round iron tubes and stuff. These can be bought in different sizes. Obviously whats of interest to us is the 12mm bracket which cost 6.90 Euros a piece (Linearfhrungen / Wellen, Wellenbock SK: - CNCShop.at).

I wanted to make my own heatsink so I bought a solid 4x4x10cm alu block. I figured I can split this into 3 pieces so they measure 4x4x3.3cm and then make a 12mm hole in the middle etc. This however is a project of its own, and not really what I wanted to show here.

I also bought 3 alu brackets to see if they were usefull as heatsinks. Below you can see a few pictures of my "modules" using these brackets. I used 12mm Aixiz housings. There is a need to adjust each "module" to be able to align the beams correct. I will not go into details of how I am going to do this since that is still work in progress :)

The following pictures shows the brackets mounted on an alu plate with a little print "interface"

I think the quality of these brackets are very good.

Thats it. Hope someone will find this info usefull.

Thanks for reading ;-)

UPDATE!

After some testing last night I discovered that the brackets align the lasers perfectly!!

The reason my preliminary test showed otherwise was the Aixiz housings. The focus part of the housing is not a tight fit, which means that the focussing part can move slightly up or down. This really makes Aixiz housings worthless for these kind of projects. I will not buy any more of those, but instead look for some that are of better quality.

Below are a few pictures of the beam alignment. I have done nothing to adjust them, just plug and play. Which really show how precise these brackets are made, and for 6.90 Euros a piece its a bargain in my opinion.

Also slipped in a pic of the alu bar that i bought 4x4x10cm :yh:

Setup:

Alignment with no adjustment at all, pure plug n play:

Beams seem to tilt a bit up, but thats due to the fact that the table I am using is defective (needs a screw in the wall :undecided:)

What I found was that these brackets work even better than I had hoped for.

Wrapping the lens threads in a layer of plumbers tape (teflon tape) before installing them will get rid of 95% of the 'wiggle' they have.

Since the greens housing ended at the pins, its just an Aizix backend set a few millimeters in the back end of the bracket to make sure the wires soldered to the pins cant move and break off :)

Its a 100mW? from Pickegg.com. Its running at 320ma and compared to my old 50mW green it is very bright so it may just be a 100mW. Dont have any measuring equipment yet so I dont know really.

You can see the greenie here: http://laserpointerforums.com/f45/how-determine-current-if-driver-unknown-59645.html#post843071

nice find, thank you!
General question: How do you drill nice holes? Mine, especially larger (12mm) diameter, end up as ugly trianglish holes.. maybe my material isnt deep enough for a round hole?

You should always, if possible, drill a smaller "guide" hole first. This makes it much easier to get a straight hole when expanding. Ofc the best would be to use a metal work bench, uhmm not sure what its actually called in english :)

I have found a source for the brackets I have described which is cheaper than the Austrian site i linked in the beginning. I need to calculate things, but will make a separate post and link to it from here when I am done. I expect they will cost between 7-8 dollars a piece + shipping. I just got a batch (from China) and the quality and precision is the same as the ones I bought in Austria earlier.

@laserlands
I've seen you posting on other threads about your products too, nothing of talking about other companies etc.
Eg, aixiz sell a smaller heatsink for half the price, but they ship from USA.

Beware with the advertising; it may sound annoying to some members.

just say laserlands have some not-often-seen things like coated lens, heatsink. nothing else. trying to be helpful
