I haven't been in the market for a laser in many months now. I bought a cheap China laser a while ago and liked it a lot for the price. 532nM supposedly 200Mw for $35.00. I was looking for other wavelengths for around the same price and spec. I purchased from T-mart since 35 bucks wasn't a make or break deal. I'm leary of spending 100 + for something that may or may not get through customs. Should I start custom building? Why the decrease in availability?

My two suggestions

.... Lazerer.com sells lasers pretty reasonably priced at high powers and they, as far as I know, get through customs with no problem.

.... Custom build :D you have more control over the internals and you feel really accomplished when you finish it!

Just so you know - Almost all Chinese websites flat out lie about laser specs. Lazerer is the only exception that I know of. Just like you, I too jumped at the thought of getting a powerful laser for cheap - should have known better.

Since you live in the US, I would recommend Survival Laser if you're looking for a violet/blue/red laser. They sell bundled part kits, which includes everything you need to build the laser - no soldering required. You'll get your stuff in a few days also, as opposed to a few weeks from any Chinese site.

I just put in a $220.00 Lazerer.com order last week. I'll post as soon as it comes in w/ reviews. I have about 12 lasers coming w/ this order. Green, purple, and red, all 50mw. Keep your fingers crossed that the order comes and I'll do my best to review them.
