Casio Projector Question

Hello LPF members,

I was wondering, how come, the casio projector is safe, but it contains 24x1W 445nm diodes? Can't the image projected on the wall be dangerous to our eyes, or if you turn around and look at projector? If it is safe, can someone explain why?

Thank you

its not safe. but at a certain point people have to take responsibility for their actions. A reasonable person would not look into a bright light.

But looking at the image projected is safe. I don't understand what is the need for all that power. From what I know it's not safe to look at the dot projected on a wall of 1w laser pointer even if it is unfocused. Maybe I'm wrong, only a beginner. PS: sry for my english, if it's bad.

Yes, it's not dangerous, because the power is distributed evenly over large area. It's all about power density, not quantity.

There are a few factors to consider.

The lasers' output is not collimated very well.
The lasers' output is passed through diffusers.
The lasers are only driven at their max output when the projector is set on extremely bright.

Due to the design of the projector (DLP), 100% of the laser output is not output as video. It would be interesting to know the percentage of the laser output that actually exists the projector.

Although it is still dangerous to look directly into the projector, the high output red LED in the projector is just as dangerous.

Ok so, for example I can look at the raw output of my 1W laser projected at a wall with the diameter of the projection about 2 meters?

you need all that power to try to create optimal image quality in as many lighting conditions as posible.

Totally. It's nothing impressive even with spot size of 1 feet. After that it's starts to strain the eyes .. and I actually never seen 'the best dot' without goggles.
