Can You Help a Novice Inventor?

Hello Everyone,

Please I need your help. I'm new here and boy am I glad I found this site. I'm a laser novice. I am working on a new product for the golf industry. I started with red laser pointers, but I now understand I need a green laser for daylight use. I have everything ready to go, but I am having a hard time finding a green laser supplier. I looked at the guide posted here about where to buy laser pointers. It was very helpful.
Here is what I need, I think. Please correct me if I am wrong on ANYTHING. TIA

I need a 532 nm green laser 5mW, I think. From my research, my product would use a green laser module, pigtailed. Or I need the smallest pre assembled green laser pointer.

Price, size and reliability are my 3 main concerns.

Last think. Am I right about green? Is that my only choice, with the above specifications?

You can get Green Laser Modules on eBay and from suppliers
like O-Like and RayFoss....
If you want to see a Green Laser Dot in the Daytime you will
need more than 5mW...

FDA limits will be a pain, high powered lasers that would be well visible in daylight are prohibited in the USA. You need several safety features for it to be legal, like 3 second turn-on delay, aperture cap, key switch etc., i think.

Thxs, Grix, I figured the Gov would be a problem. I have tried the cheapest 5mW green laser pen. Except in direct sunlight, it is visible enough, for my purpose. Thanks, again

If the unit you are installing the laser into is dealing with movement, impact or stress, you will have much more reliability with a diode laser instead of a DPSS laser, which would rule out green.

If it doesn't require any kind of impact or movement the green should be fine. But it will also typically be larger than a diode style laser, just an FYI!

Visible in daylight is going to be an issue. I think if you are trying to point at places in grass at a distance the green dot won't be showing up as easily. Yellow might show up a bit more, then maybe not, as most grass I've seen on gold courses are a yellow green. But yellow is quite expensive anyways. Be advised anything bright enough to see at a distance in full daylight is going to be a serious eye hazard at a place like a golf course. Once you go beyond 5mw you go beyond what the eye can handle without permanent damage. Hence the government restrictions.

I have a 100mw green laser. It's bright enough to see insane distances at night, see quite far in the evening, but in full daylight at noon, seeing it anywhere on the ground at more then 50 feet takes some looking. I most certainly wouldn't advise shining my 100mw greenie around a golf course. The risk of eye injury or loss is simply too great. If you don't need that kind of range, then you can probably get by with a weaker laser that's more safe
