Hello all, I recently purchased an O-like 1w 445nm blue laser, and upon receiving it the "point" is very large, despite attempting to focus it, and is far from circular, in fact it produces a second dot sometimes. Is this normal? If not do you have any ideas what could be the issue? I have cleaned all the lens so I'm pretty sure we can eliminate that.

Sorry the camera doesn't photograph bright lights very well

The second dot / point can be seen here

Here is without the lens/cap

Thanks

The diode window looks like it is very dirty. You could try and clean it with a Q-tip and some alcohol.

It should be nice and clean like this.

Don't wait too long before cleaning the glass windows. The dirt may burn into the glass under the intense laserlight.

I cleaned the glass very thoroughly and this had no effect on the output. What does this suggest? Thanks.

It could suggest like Blord said that what ever was on there has now burned into the window. If that is the case then the only options would be to decan the diode, install a new diode or send it back to be repaid from where you bought it.

It's brand new, I don't think this is the case unless it was shipped with a dirty lens.

Brand new can mean many things in different parts of the world. This is simply dirty diode window, there is no other explanation. It's really hard to clean it properly, as it is very small.
