Can someone help me out?

I think you've got it Gazoo, with nothing connected to the Adj pin very little current will flow as the pin will float at 1.25V at almost no current.

Dawgz, does the LD get VERY hot, as in 'too hot to touch' after just a few seconds?

If you went by the numbering on Daedals circuit it is confusing. Pin 2 is voltage out and pin three is adjust. But once again you have not told us what pin 3 is connected to??? I posted a link to a website on page 2 of this thread for you to refer to. Did you take a look at it???

yea i looked at it, and i wired it up as the diagram showed on daeduls's pics, but when i read the box, it said pin 2 is Vout instead of Alt

Ignore daedal's pin numbering and go by the circuit in the link I provided for you. The rheostat and resistors all need to be connected in series between the adj. and voltage out.

so, do u think if i re-do it the way ur telling me, it should work out? or is the diode dead for sure....

eh, i guess we'll find out tonite when i work on it.

Redo it...I am not so sure your diode is dead... :) It is worth it to find out right???

I'll bet it should work =]
I accidentally put 6v into my 6x DVD LD yesterday by wiring a polarised capacitor on the wrong way round :-[ and yet, it still works :D

EDIT: That's why daedal's circuit is so good, I had my 50ohm pot all the way up and a 10 ohm resistor in series so the current was too low to fry it...
That or I'm just lucky ::)

well haha, i couldnt wait and i re did it, but even with the way that was specified, the POT wasnt able to do lower or max the current going thru.... so i had to Re-wire it by putting the positive lead from the battery pack off the lead 1 of the LM371, and soldered it to the POT's pin 1, then on the pot hooked pin 2 and 3, and then soldered a wire there to the lead 1 of the LM371, that let me increase and decrease the current, i checked this with a white led.

but when i hooked up the LD, the diode was actn the same, and i tried to touch the brass part and it was hot within a few second.

oh man.

im using a 25-ohm pot (3watt) that was specified in daedul's tutorial.

And im using two 10 ohm resistors in parallel (to make it 5ohm)

Tried using the other diode?
I had a light JUST like that from the non-burning LD.

isnt the other diode the IR diode?

haha or have i been using the IR diode all along?

Most likely, IR or not is debatable but it is certainly visible and looked like that!
My diode is so cold at the minute... even after a few minutes, I need to double up the 10ohm resistors like you have.

I borrowed a Volt meter from a friend of mine.

When i hooked it up to the battery source directly (4 X AA) it read 5.51v)

when i hoooked it up to the positive and negative leads where the LD should be hooked up to, it reads 4.80v

i dono whats goin on, whats not working? now i know how i killed the diode, too much current to it i guess!

Whats not working here?

Dawgz - you are getting current and voltage mixed up ! I will post some (Plain English) instructions in a few....We wil get you up and running, for sure !
