Guys, I need your help (gotta go take an exam in one our, will explain tomorrow night why I need it).

If you own an RPL (blue or green), could you please provide the following information?

  • Model/Wavelength/Advertised Power
  • Divergence value
  • Peak/Avg. power value.
  • Is the power constant for the first 5 minutes?
  • How long can you have it powered on before it mode hops?
  • How long can you have it powered on before its power goes below its advertised power?
  • How long do you need to let it rest before powering it up after turning it on for a long time?
  • How long does it take for power to stabilize when you turn it on (cold start)?

Thanks in advance, will appreciate as much info as you have. And again, I'll explain later why I need this.

2007rev., could you please move this thread to the general section, then?

Thread moved. Guess RPLs are a little rarer than we thought. lol :p

Well, we know there are several with RPLs, including myself (I just noticed your thread). I'd be happy to help, and I'll be getting my 2nd (a 30mW blue) over the holiday. However, I can't provide those measurements. I don't own an LPM or such.

Didn't it arrive with a specs sheet?

@Proto, yes, thanks, I'll PM them when I get back from college (final today!!) tonight.

Without getting to the specifics of all those questions, I will just say that with both of my RPL's, some of the things that I do not like are:

* Long warm up times
* Power jumping around a lot

Those are two things that bother me the most in any laser.

I really don't understand DPSS enough to make a good argument to Jack. I had sent my RPL 300 back for a replacement. And wasn't happy with it. So I upgraded to an RPL 375. It reaches above that power, but with a long warm up, and you must have a fresh charged battery.

But it still jumps around a lot. And I don't like my lasers to behave like this. So it's a shame. My best and most expensive lasers behaving like this.

My RPL blue 35 does the same thing...

Just to add...

It seems like my RPL's will operate best if they are in a warm environment.

If it's even slightly cool, even in my office in the morning (65 degrees), they don't put out very well.

This is some what normal with most DPSS lasers, but most will warm up pretty fast.

My RPL's must be in a warm environment, and then they will work much better...

That's very good to know, thanks for the input.

Re: Calling All RPL Owners

Not a real RPL, like JayRob i own a susie/Sandstone/O-Like model

Model/Wavelength/Advertised Power
Susie/Sanstone/O-Like 532 250mW
Divergence value
<.2mRad
Peak/Avg. power value.
300mW/~270mW
Is the power constant for the first 5 minutes?
dunno i don't leave it on for that long, but close to constant
How long can you have it powered on before it mode hops?
see above
How long can you have it powered on before its power goes below its advertised power?
see above
How long do you need to let it rest before powering it up after turning it on for a long time?
minute on/minute off cycles
How long does it take for power to stabilize when you turn it on (cold start)?
less than 30 secs

Thanks for the info. One question, though... Is the divergence really <0,2mRad? That seems unlikely.

Re: Calling All RPL Owners

Hopefully we'll get more input here.

I'm still waiting for my Blue RPL to get back from repairs. I'll post this info when it does.

Well, we know there are several with RPLs, including myself (I just noticed your thread). I'd be happy to help, and I'll be getting my 2nd (a 30mW blue) over the holiday. However, I can't provide those measurements. I don't own an LPM or such.

I can help with that. Let me know when your Blue RPL comes in.

Yes, but that doesn't answer:
Is the power constant for the first 5 minutes?
How long can you have it powered on before it mode hops?

How long do you need to let it rest before powering it up after turning it on for a long time?

Bryce and I may get together over the holidays, and he has test equip. That'll be fun, too!

But divergence, avg. power and peak power is stated :p

Thanks guys.
