Buying the best batteries-A (potentially unfounded) dilemma

Numerous people around the forum, most recently Pi R Squared I believe, have stressed the importance of buying the best batteries you can afford. I was about to order these: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...A38GBW24HDG5AI because of all the fancy charts and statistics, but in the top review, it claims that when you take off the yellow wrap there is actually a familiar Panasonic battery underneath. I understand this may be a totally false claim, though.

All of that being said, I just want to get what's best for my new baby. She is a 3-3.5W 445nm handheld with 4 modes (100%, 50%, 5% and strobe) in an MX 900 host.. She takes button tops. This is my most powerful laser, and the only one that makes me feel like I need to scrutinize batteries.

Any input or suggested reading on the topic is definitely appreciated!

I promised I used the search function for an hour our so before posting.

Thanks!

Thanks man! I've got no problem paying for quality. But not if more than half the value is in the label.

Remember that there's only a few companies that MAKE cells.

EVERYONE selling these to consumers, and not to say Tesla or laptop makers, etc... takes the Panasonic, Sony, etc, cell, and puts a private label on it, and sells it as their "brand".

Protection circuits for example are ONLY added by these re-sellers...as the cell manufacturers do not sell protected cells.

So, having a Panasonic 18650 with a protection circuit added, and it all encased in a new shrinkwrap that says another brand...is NORMAL.

What the PROBLEM is on the el cheapo ones is that that cell might not be a NEW one, it might be recycled from an old laptop, etc.

The cell under the wrapper is unknown until you unwrap it...and, some might say on the outside that it a 3,400 mah lithium ion 18650, and, inside, there's a brand new Panasonic 3400 mah 18650...

....and others might say they are a 6,000 mah 18650, and, inside, there's a recycled 2600 mah cell, etc.

So, buying from a respected SELLER means that, hopefully, THEY did the QA/QC on their supply chain, so that THEY are sure they are sending you what you thought you were getting.

Obviously, they cannot practically inspect every single cells' internal resistance, etc...but, batches can be spot checked at least, etc....

But that means they are paying more to buy more reliable sources, and, will need to charge you more for the final product....etc.

Is a high price a guarantee of quality? No. Is the ebay rating? No, too many "associates" can flood the site with positive reviews.

What is most reliable are the opinions of those YOU know, and trust, and their recommendations, not random strangers on the web with no vested interest in your satisfaction with what you buy.

On a forum, such as this one...no one HERE should be vested in getting you to buy something shady...we're all enthusiasts. Getting you to buy something that would not work is not going to happen on purpose.

That is awesome info. Thank you! Based on some recommendations from around the forum I ended up getting some KeepPower Panasonic protected 3400mah's from Illumn. Hopefully they do the job.
