Hey I'm literally brand new to buying green lasers. I live in Perth WA Australia and the only legal milliwatt is 1mW so I am buying one off eBay, and it is a good price, true 1mW from the UK so when I get it will it be able to burn anything or should I pot mod it?? And if I do pot mod it will it break?? I will be getting it in about 2-2half weeks so I need to know what to do ad no higher mW is not an option :( thanks everyone :)

if you've ever seen one of those keychain red lasers... that's the power you'll be getting; just in a green color. A good price for such an item would be... $5? There is no way your laser will be able to burn anything at 1mw. And although pod modding could make it more powerful, chances are you'll kill it right away or within a week or so. But if you're seeking higher power, putting your own laser together could work, individual pieces slip past customs.

R u in australia?, because if I do pot mod it how much milliwatt do you think I'll get from it?? And also I have a broken ps3 so when I get my green laser and pot mod it and the diode breaks will I be able to put In the ps3 blueray laser diode?, to the green laser pointer housing?? And if so cab you please link a video in how to do that?? I also found this video of a 1mW green laser pointer, this guy is at night , clearly not foggy and the beam is clearly very visible so I DON'T think it will be as bright as a red laser, dude that's impossible green is seen alot more visible to the human eye more than red so no offense but it is alot more powerful, thankyou for the reply though :) here it the laser on eBay..... Seriously dude, a 5mW green would be about 3 times as bright as the keychain red... but your right it won't burn anything need at least 50mW.

Also all those cheap ones you get on ebay from around the world will almost definitely not be 1mW, my friend bought one and it was confiscated at customs. You can request it be sent in two parts and that has worked for me in the past a bit hit and miss imo. But if you buy from someone like rayfoss you can simply request that it be sent in two packages for a few dollars extra and get the battey and tailcap separately.

Yeah but the one I'm getting is 1mw so It is totally legal in Australia an I even rang customs and they said it is legal, so what do I do? Should I try pot mod it and if it dosent work take out the green laser diode and put in a ps3 blueray diode? Then will that burn?? And I'm pretty sure it's a 69GB one, will it burn? And how much milliwatts will that be? Thanks for the advice dude :)

customs tests laser pointers now.
if they are over 1mw by even .1mw then they will confiscate it, send you a long letter telling you its illegal to import lasers over 1mw and add you name on a registry of people trying to import lasers over 1mw, which (according to customs) means they examine packages sent to you a bit more closely. if you try to import one again over 1mw and they confiscate it again, you get another warning. and from what i have heard third time you get a fine. and its a fairly large fine.

but all apart from all that. you can legaly import any laser parts, no matter what the wattage of them are, as long as they are not a fully asembled hand held laser pointer.

and btw its technicaly illegal to own a laser pointer over 1mw without a firearms permit for it....... not that we take much notice of that :p

If the beam is visible then it's way over 1mW. however if you bought it from somewhere in Australia, then you shouldn't have any customs problems because it shouldn't pass through customs.

If you follow the link in my signature, the seller claims that the beam is visible in un polluted areas.

That astronomy site is a good option for anyone in australia buying a laser.

qumefox, could u please boost my reputation :thanks:

rep is earned.. not requested.. and I don't see anything for you to have earned any from me.

Though begging for is usually guarantees you don't get any from anyone for a while.

Rude or not it's the truth. If it was possible to ask for rep, the system would be worthless.

Stick around and contribute to the forum, either with help, information, or services, and your rep will increase fast enough.

Something seems off with that site. How are they selling up to 400mw green lasers if AU laws are so strict about lasers? Is there something I'm missing here?
