So, I was trying to pot mod my 5 mw laser... it was an ebay laser and I lost the button. Anyone have any ideas for things to use to improvise? Thanks also, I turned the pot to the left a little, all it did was lower the lasers output

Does this mean that you lost your button?

If so, you can cut/sand down a piece of plastic the right size and then put a VERY small spot of liquid nails onto the interior switch. Then press the new button onto the glue. Be very careful about the amount. If it gets down onto the surface of the switch body or between the switch button and the body, it will either stay on or stay off.

After you get it to "stay" leave it alone for a day so the glue can dry all the way. If you play with it then, the odds that the glue will get where you don't want it increase.

Peace,
dave

potmodding mostly results in dead lasers. it worked better with older lasers, worse with the newer ones. ..and normally, pots increase clockwise and decrease counterclockwise..
(increase current by decreaseing resistance)

Personally I'd forget pot modding, you'll most likely just burn your laser out, and you won’t get much out a 5mw laser anyway, almost certainly not enough power to burn.

You’ll be better off building a DIY from scratch; Jayrob does some excellent DIY kits here on the forums.

As far as button goes, was it the switch itself or just a plastic cover for the switch?
