There is no specific point at which pixels start dying... it would vary from screen to screen.

Laser Safety 101:

DON'T POINT LASER AT STUFF YOU DON'T WANT DAMAGED...

Kind of thought that was a given:p

I thought about camera pixels. I guess 5mW lasers would be fine, as I guess the cameras (and screens) are less sensitive to damage then the eye.
But 50mW can cut plastic tape if focused well .. so I guess it can damage screen pixels. Ans camera pixels could be even more sensitive. Still I shone 200mW on my webcam and it did no damage at all. On the other hand I know cameras are often damaged on laser shows.

Are you sure your phone has a LCD screen? Quite a few have OLED these days.
Both can be damaged but its much easier with OLED.

<5mw likely to survive temporary exposures
>5mw unlikely to survive temporary exposures

if you want to destroy some cameras, you get just buy cheapy ones for $10

maybe a little unrelated...
Here are some yellow spots I accidentally burned on my laptop's screen over a year ago, it was with a ~200mw LOC, it burned them instantly.

Wow .. nice ! Instantly you said ? Would it be possible to paint a picture on the screen ? Somebody else's screen of course .. like your boss .. for example something really rude ..
Just thinking .. :umbrella:

Nice. I burned my LCD in quite a few places with my 200mw red, was quite instant actually. I really wasn't expecting it lol, I'm just glad it didn't burn right through it and cause it to bleed :(

polarizing filters absorb quite a bit of radiation. They are also made of a not-so-heat-resistant material. Without polarization, no way to filter out an "on" pixel from an "off" one, so you just get a white spot.

BTW, diffraction gratings sometimes, and nice smooth matte films for flashlights and stuff.
