hey guys, i had it working!

could see the beam and everything.

but i dont know how the diode may just have blown, im not sure. (could be batteries? *hopefull*)

diode light became much dimmer and is streched out, kinda like this

god, now i know what its like having a newborn child.

note:
when i was testing it, it was not in a host, ie wires hanging out

Hmm....
Maybe you a wire disonnected and reconnected? Then the (now charged up) capacitor may have blown the diode. Did you have the wires soldered to the driver?
Maybe you just have a bad connection or something :-?
Were they fresh batteries? Sometimes when the batteries are almost depleted, it will look like the diode is dead...
But, even if the diode is dead, at least you have the driver and host, and you only need to buy a new diode.
BTW, it could've been heat. How long did you leave the diode on for?

which is the superior diode brand?

i'm pretty certain iv'e blown my diode ;) probs electrostatic discharge, or so i've heard

TheMonk sells Pioneer 115D diodes...

and i blew the second diode before i got it into the module. was an LG 22X

it took more than 2 hours to get it out of the heatsink

i am pissed and need desperate help


whats the secret? *despair*

Was the driver connected to the diode? :-?
If not, then yes it will get hot.

To get diodes out of the heatsink, you slowly cut the heatsink metal with a hack saw, and be careful not to touch the can. Then stick a small screwdriver in the crevice and bend outward. Now the diode should fall out ;)

yea, driver was connected, but it still got hot really fast :s

ahh, ty, guess ill try again monday :)

27$ per attempt for 22x :s

Ya, it's a linear driver :)

umm, k

then why put a heatsink on the diode when its the driver is what gets so hot? i mean, i have it on for 20 seconds, the module is slightly warm, but the driver is burning hot, is this ok?


oh yea, i successfully harvested and installed a diode.
things i did differently
- used a hack saw.
- placed ice on the heatsinks after every time it touched a soldering iron.

wouldn't have been possible without A grade help, thanks all who contributed!! :)

oh, i saw before, cant remember or find which thread, a pic of a red laser beam being beamed at some bushes in someones back or front yard at dusk. if anybody remembers the thread or has the pic pleaaaaase post it! thanks :)

It's the diode that needs a heatsink because it is the diode that can die...

hey, how do i trouble shoot a laser related problem? i took it to school (forced) for assessment, brought it home, and now it has stopped functioning. I'm hopefull its a battery related issue, but any suggesations as to what else it could be? there is no light at all.

If there is no light at all, then your diode is not dead. It is probably a connection or battery problem. Check your solder connections, and charge your batteries. If it still doesn't work, then ask Rckstr for a new driver, because yours may have something wrong with it...
