Are these illegal to import?

I'll be travelling to the US soon and am just wondering if there's some nutty federal law that prevents this?

What power? If it's over 5mW and doesn't have safety features it is illegal (someone correct me if i'm wrong please) It must be FDA approved to be llegal

It's really up to you then...Airports can take basically whatever they want any time...If you keep the batteries in a different place, I would bet they wouldn't mess with it. If it is a super expensive laser tho, I wouldn't risk it haha

Yeah, put stuff like that in checked bags. Having it in carry-on luggage is just asking for trouble. Plus there is ZERO reason to have one in the cabin of the plane anyway.

I came back from Hong Kong earlier this year & was stressin' out hard trying to figure out how get the lasers I bought back into the US without customs them taking them away.

I checked them into my luggage, basically dismantled the best I could & put random pieces in different padded envelopes so it looked like a bunch of nonsense flashlight components & got through with no problems.

I however had a Laserglow Galileo 5mw pointer in my carry-on backpack that I had forgotten about until after I checked my bags. I realized it & immediately removed the battery in it. The TSA found it on the x-ray took it out & tried to turn it on, when it didn't work he put it back in my bag & sent me on my way! :)

Sooo.... PUT THEM IN YOUR CHECK-IN LUGGAGE!!!!

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the responses.
Just to let you know I would not even be considering putting them in my hand-luggage but this topic concerns my CHECKED luggage. Sorry for not making that clear before.
