hi all
as I don't know anything about laser tech , I am in the hunt for knowledge .... I want a very bright beam laser line , this will be used around the work place , so it will have to come under H&S rules for power limits , what ever they are ?
what is the best unit to use ......

G'day mate, welcome to the forum!
You're looking for a green laser. Free lasers have the most visible beam, could you specify you're need in a bit of more detail, then we could help you choose the power rating. Thanks.

We usually use terminology like this: beam = line in air. Line = line on surface. Which is it you want ? And why ?

200mW reds, which are quite cheap, with line generating grating (kind of lens, rather cheap too) could do it.
Problem is .. will it be possible for people to get between laser and line ? While the intensity might be safe at the target distance, it will get higher toward laser, and at some distance it will reach unsafe level.

No, I mean the tape alone. Maybe we should start at the beginning. Why do you need a line on the floor?

and what kind of a budget do you have? I may have what you need, if you want a turn-key solution. Or we can offer advice, if you want to put it together, yourself.

If you need just a straight red line on the floor about 4 feet from the sender and you need safe power levels then you could probably pick up a laser level at some place like home depot for like $15-$20.00?

Not very DIY, but it meets your requirements and would be simple, cheap and quick.

Not sure what OP would think about this, but laser levels brightness is usually crap. Basically not visible in daylight. But yes, that's because they want the beam to be safe at aperture.

That's how long is a bit of string , but I have a price in my head , maybe maybe wrong but my string is long as @ £150 / 200 ......
