Default blue laser, or red?

My grandparents are kinda uncomfortable with me owning a 1w blue laser, but i could save up for one. but if they decide i cant get the blue one, would it be a good idea to get this red one?

LZCB - CYBER 650nm 200mW Red Laser Pointer

ive always liked red lasers, and the blue one freaks my grandparents out.
im also thinking about maybe having a smoother transition between <100mw and 1000+mw.
so, any ideas? i really like the waterproof host on this laser, ive had a greenie in a golden host similar to it and i reaally liked it. and it was more powerfull than my junky 303.
i do intend on getting the blue one sometime, but probably when i get a job. at that point i probably wont care whether my grandparents are scared of it, because i probably wont be using it when theyre around. im really cheap tbh

teach me your purchasing ways, o wise ones

Default Re: blue laser, or red?

I'm assuming that you need your grandparent's consent to buy a laser and that's why you can't get one, correct me if I'm wrong. In that case, is it the brightness that they're freaked out by or is it really the colour? A 200mW 650nm isn't really that fun, because the beam isn't visible unless you're looking at it in a pitch dark environment.I think your best option is one of the lower power 520nm diodes, they've got a decently bright enough beam. But if you're set on red you should consider a 350mW+ 638nm as it's a brighter wavelength per mW than the 650nm.

Default Re: blue laser, or red?

well what scares them is the power. im not all about the brightness of the laser, otherwise i would be getting a green one. i might get a 638, as ive never had a laser in that wavelength before. this 200mw red is also not $100 like the blue. $100 might not seem much to you experienced users, but for me, i cant get a job at my age because of some "child labor" laws, and my grandparents arent willing to just give money away to fund my laser collecton. ive been running short of things to find to do that can make me moneys, but i am doing a garage sale tomorrow so i might get another $30 from that.

also if i do get a red laser, where can i find some decent blue goggles that arent $50 for a single pair?

I would at least get the 638nm version. That one will at least give you a visible beam. The 650 at 200mw is useless for everything except popping a balloon or something.

Please get lazerer out of your head if you want a quality laser. For just $10 more you can get a REALLY good laser from Sanwu (Pocket 650nm 250mW.) It takes a 10440 battery. You won't be disappointed.

alright, lets say i get the 638nm red you got. where can i get the goggles for it? and is it water proof?

Edit: sta posted something as i was making my post so kek ima look into that aswell

Edit 2: tbh that host is waay to tiny for my liking, the way i am it will probably get lost somewhere, as i tend to carry handheld lasers everywhere i got except school. i would buy a 200+mw red laser though if it had that nice host i was talking about earlier.

I don't believe the Lazerer 638 is waterproof. The Sanwu Pocket I recommended is IP67 water resistant, the same as the iPhone 7, you can keep it under 10 feet of water for 30 minutes without any damage. I don't know of any cheap, effective goggles for red lasers.

For BLUE lasers only, here is a good pair at low cost: https://www.amazon.com/Uvex-S0360X-U...productDetails

And here's the link to the Sanwu Pocket (forgot it in my previous post): https://www.sanwulasers.org/product/pocket

Lazerer are fine IMO. They just get a lot of unwarranted hate over a few bad things that happened years ago. I own 2 lasers from them and both work perfectly and are up to spec. The problem with that sanwu unit is it's another 650nm. 650nm just isn't much fun. Barely visible beam and you can't do a whole lot of burning with 200mw. The 638nm will at least be pretty bright and provide a nice beam at night.

They are fine, I just don't like them that much personally. I suppose they're okay for reds - especially 638 - and not good for blue. Just don't take too high a risk with them.

Default Re: blue laser, or red?

so then i wouldnt see anything bad about buying from lazerer.
the issue is about the sanwu pockets is their size! i carry my handhelds everywhere i go except for school, so something that tiny would get lost really fast and boom, there goes $50.
if i can find some >100mw 638s for less than $70 i might get that, but for now untill i can know for certain that i will be able to get some money in the near future, i will probably stick to a cheaper 650. as of now, the 1w blue is a while away, since after my garage sale i will probably only have $75, and i dont know how im gonna get the last bit of money for the 1w blue even with the coupon code.

i also really dont care as much about the beam being visible, just the dot. thats probably one of my favorite things to do with a higher power red laser is to mess with people pretending "i made my own pet laser, but it was too powerful to play with my cat because it set the carpet on fire KEK". the last 650 i owned was a 301 and it was really bright and i could see the beam in pitch black, but it LEDd on the first day theres no way it was a 5mw, nor could it have been anywhere over 80mw, so i expect even better from a 200mw

Have you thought about a 462nm unit? I've heard the color is very nice to look at

I have a single mode 638nm from dtr that i lpmed at 250ish mw and it's bright as hell you can see a hint of orange if you compare it to 660 or do a few second exposure on some cameras. my first burner was a 200mw 660 this was before 630ish diodes existed.

660nm is a joke beam wise and brightness wise. I have a 110mw 301 660nm laser and i can hardly see the beam. maybe as good as a 5mw green. Where as my 638nm goes farther and has a nice beam even before it is fully dark. Red lasers aren't as good as burning vs blue though. A 405nm laser of 50mw will make my skin feel warm while a 110mw 660nm won't

O-like and laserBTB are cheap, and they have a ton of selection.

There have been some complaints about them in the past, but they are typically up to spec, and are overall good choices for a beginner looking to get into higher powered lasers without spending too much. I would recommend at least checking them out.

As others have already suggested, Sanwu is a very good option if you want a high-quality laser, but their larger hosts can be somewhat pricey. Honestly, I wouldn't recommend you drop that much on a laser until you're positive that you'll be sticking with the hobby.

hmm. maybe if my grandparents decide to give me $100 to spend on lasers i might get the 300mw 638nm from lazerer unless i can get it from somewhere else cheaper

Alright well i ended up getting the 200mw 650. i will be sure to make the review on it as soon as i get it
