Hey, I relly wanna make a blu-ray laser. On eBay I have seen a violet laser diode in a module. It needs 5V at 90mA to work it. Now I really need to know what I will need to make a steady current of 5V @ 90mA. What batterys will I need? And I know im proberbly going to use a drive. I have NEVER realy made anything like a laser before, so I dont know too much about this stuff. So if u use long tehcnical words, I wont understand :)! I dont really want to make a drive, and I dont really want to buy off laserpointerfourms. Idd much rather buy within eBay, so if someone knows on eBay were I can get a drive that produses 5V at 90mA, please give me the link. I also need to know how to put it in a circit, and I dont want to make a flashlight laser, as I have hardly any soldring experiance.

-Thanks.

You can either make your own, or there is a thread in the B/S/T section selling completed modules for $40 ( with RKCSTR driver ) or $55 ( with FlexDrive V2 ).

http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1224680882

If you don't want to buy one , you can buy a diode and driver with aixiz module from the B/S/T section also. If you are using a PHR-803T diode, they can be driven at over 90mA if you use a heatsink, I would recommend around 120-130mA.

You should also invest in some laser safety glasses.

The laser diode im using produses about 150mW at 5V and 90mA. All I need to know is were to get a driver from. I want to buy within eBay. It isnt the PHR-803T diode, it has a wavelength of 407.5nm. It probley isnt blu-ray anyway. But it needs 5V at 90mA. I need to get a drive that will produse that.

I will get saftey goggles as well defently.

150mW at 90mA ? I would like to know what this diode is , I have never seen a diode that efficient.

A driver that will produce this is the RKCSTR driver or FlexDive V2 .

BluRay diodes vary in wavelength, some have been tested below 400nm others have been tested at over 410nm. they usually do need 5V, but to get 150mW from 90mA you would need to be getting 1.666mW per mA , most diodes can't even reach 1 mW/mA.

okay, How would I get the drive to produse 5V at 90mA??? And how would I connect it to the circit? Can u give me a diagram or somin?

They said there website hade moved, and when I cliked on the link and went to the new one, the driver that was used in the video was not there.

PLEASE read around the forums before posting this crap. All of your questions have been answered, and you've said some pretty dumb things.

1. It does not need exactly 5V at 90mA to work it. There is a very wide range of voltage and current you can choose from; anywhere between 3V and 10V, and 50mA to 300mA (Hey, daguin's done it!)

2. You don't come to a site saying that you don't want to buy from it. That's both stupid and insulting.

3. Sellers on LPF are VASTLY more trustable than sellers on eBay.

4. If you don't want to make a driver (learn your terms better), and you don't want to buy one here, good luck. You'll need it.

5. If you don't want to solder, then either use solder paste (ask around for how to do this) or buy a premade laser. You're going to have to solder/use solder paste no matter what build you go with.

6. The diode you are looking at is a PHR-803T diode. It is rated for 60mW, not 150mW. This is a classic eBay scam. If you were to read around the forums for a little bit, you would know what this meant.

7. No blu-ray diode in existence, ESPECIALLY not the PHR-803T (like you want to buy for much more than it's worth on eBay) can put out 150mW at 90mA. It would be putting out barely above half this power at this current.

8. It can have a wavelength of anywhere between 395-415nm, but it is probably 405nm +/- 2nm. It should be sold as a 405nm diode, like it was intended to be.

9. It's blu-ray. Learn your wavelengths before telling us what it "probley" is/isn't.

10. The website had changed/moved? I just checked, both links are valid and Youtube and LPF are still here.

11. There are 3 main drivers we use here: RKCSTR, FlexDrive V2, and DDL. The RKCSTR and FlexDrive V2 are still in production (whether or not they are out of stock I don't know, but they will be back in stock eventually.) The DDL driver is a DIY driver, so it is available as long as you have the time and patience to devote to it.

12. Read around the site, learn to spell, and stop spamming your crap. There is help for you if you treat us better. You are not "entitled" to any help here. Treat us respectfully and read the stickies, and you will be able to find out information much more quickly and efficiently.

1)I know that laser diodes can use a wide range of mA. I just wanted to use the reccomend rate (5V @ 90mA)

2)LPF isnt JUST a selling site!

3)Fine, I will take your word for it, its just I have heard things about people buying from fourms and directly with paypal, and they have lost cash.

4)I saw the 100mA drive on that youtube video, so I CAN get one!

5)What I forgot to say is I dont want to do much soldring, and was just saying that I havent done much of it before

6)I dont really care, Ill get anoter diode then, I just want a violet laser that is at least 50mW

7)Really?

8)I guess they like being exact!

9)Well I didnt know that......

10)The website still exists yes, but the driver has gone!!

11)Three main drives that you use? Good for you.

12)I have read around the website, It isnt a god damn spelling test, and im not spamming. I know im not entitaled to any help, but I just hoped some nice, freaindly people would come accorse and help me.

it's not that we're not nice and helpful ( most of us ) we just get a lot of people asking the same questions and it gets annoying after a while, especially when the information can be found by using the search function, or reading the FAQs.

I'm sorry for making such a harsh post, and I did not mean it to be interpreted as a personal attack. What I intended was to make it clear that you are not the only one with these questions and point out that you are acting arrogant; it would have been a different matter if you hadn't acted like a laser expert and immediately refuted our help and downplayed our knowledge. I would not have minded if you had just come across as looking for help without making so many assertions and acting as if you know better than we do. Knowledge comes from experience and interaction, not shady sellers.
