Blu-Ray Drive Efficiency???

I recently took apart a LG 6X Blu-Ray burner and now that I have I thought of something I would like to have tried before I ripped the sled apart. What is the efficiency of the light delivery in an optical drive? How much makes it from the laser diode all the way to the media? You would think that a lot of light is lost given the complicated optical path in these Blu-Ray/DVD/CD burner combo’s but I bet the efficiency is surprisingly high. Anyone measured this or have an idea?

I dont know of anyone who has measured the actual output it uses while burning yet :(

But, I would venture to bet that it's at or under ~75mW. I really have nothing to base that on, just a guess. As you said, it goes through quite a few pieces before actually making it to the media. Also, the diode is ran at a much lower power level than we run them at in handheld lasers, just because the drive is meant to work for a very long time without any issues.

Well really it couldn't be THAT strong as we wouldn't want to burn through the disc's =]
