Hi,
I was wondering what kind of battery i need to blow up a 47uf 16v capacitor by hooking it up at reverse polarity. I need this for... safety reasons... ::)

Reverse polarity isn't too good anyway. But a 30V battery should blow it up eighter way, I think :p Btw, General disscution about LASERS. ::)

So, there some kind of dangerous animal out there, and you need to use a capacitor to blow it up?

A good way to blow up a small cap is discharging a big one into it :D

just send some voltage into it, and reverse the polarity (if it is a 'lytic (electrolytic)), If it is something that isnt polarised, then its abit harder.

Whenever I want to blow up small caps I hook them up to my 3 22,000uf caps. Boom :D

so how do would i charge my 5.5 volt 1 farad cap.
You apply 5Volts to it in the correct polarity and wait a long time.

It is a good idea to charge it through a resistor so you dont melt anything. Charging time in seconds will be about 5 times the resistance you use. 99 percent is ~5*RC.
