i have a question..well actually a couple..ok here goes: 1) what is the best number of mW to burn something but not like really expensive? 2) Build or buy? 3) does the color of the laser effect the burning capabilities? 4) Where to buy?

1- I'd say 120mW makes a nice amount of smoke..
2- Build.
3- Kind of. Depends on the colour material you're burning.
4- Erm.. read the stickys.

cool cool! is it hard to build your own laser...im thinking i want a 130-150mW module in the base?! and do you just get the diode you and and then assemble the module in the base? or is it like wayyy harder to do?

If you want your first high power laser get one of these-

DealExtreme Search: 200mW

;)

Theres plenty of info on the site about building a laser.

Sorry to Hijack your thread but it saves me making another useless thread. Do I need to have safety goggles if I get a 200mW laser.

greenl--why do you keep asking questions that are ALREADY asked and answered??Use the search!!!! have you ever heard 'you only get one chance to make a first impression'? and since you blew your first chance by offering the LPF members the 'chance of a lifetime' to buy a green laser pointer from you at a 'negative' discount ($23.+ vs. the 15-16$ you get from your eekbay sales)-you need to be less of a pest more now than ever. I also wonder, how responsible are your friends who bought pointers from you? Careless use of lasers has already hurt our 'hobby' way too many times. IMO
