i just got a small 5mw laser from gear best in the mail that takes 1 x 16340 battery. been searching around stores in my area and only one place has the 16340 in stock, batteries plus

but,

the one they have is not li ion and is not rechargeable. given the circumstances i would buy one to use this laser, but i want to make sure it is safe for the laser and wont damage anything

Rayovac CR123A Lithium Battery 1 Pack - RAYRL123A-1 - Batteries Plus

it appears a little lower in voltage as well. thanks for any help

edit i will do a small review of their 2 pen lasers i have, and this one at a later time

It is more than a little lower in voltage, it won't be enough to power your laser for long. The non rechargeables are always 3V, Li-Ion are 3.7V but charge to 4.2V. You haven't added your location to your profile so no one knows what country your in. Here in the U.S. You will never find them in a store, you have to buy your batteries and charger online.

Typically (assuming linear driver), using it in a red pointer will either not work, or make it dim. Using it in a green pointer depends on how good the driver is. Many of the greens I've tested regulate well down to 2.3V. It will never damage your pointer though.

Essentially, it'll work with a green, but not a red.

did you check Vape shops? A lot carry 18350's which are just a few mm wider but same voltage as 16340

I bet if you brought your laser to a Vape shop, told them you're looking for 18350 or 16340 they would gladly let you check if it fit before buying.

Who knows someone at the Vape shop might even have some 16340's they would sell you. We tend to accumulate a lot of gear lol

* just thought I'd add, I have yet to ever walk in a Vape shop where they weren't very helpful and friendly.

get them on ebay. I bought a 12 pack of Panasonic's for 30$ but I've seen them as low as 8$ for 4 of them
