Hi,

I have a set of interferometric autocorrelation traces, and I want to calculate the pulse duration from them. Does anyone know how to extract or calculate from the fringe trace?

Hello and welcome, while this is way over my head, we DO have a scientist or two as members.
Maybe "Cyparagon" could help you out, I bet he could at least shove you in the right direction, or know someone who could.

If you sent him to PL, I would have just sent him to this:

FROG: tutorial --GRENOUILLE

Those guys can help him. They invented FROG to get rid of nasty auto techniques. Since they needed auto to calibrate FROG, I'm sure they will know how to help him.

There should be enough papers linked to the FROG technique for him to find what he needs with scifinder/medlink.

What kind of autocorrelator did you use? A simple linear autocorrelator only gives the spectral width. With a SHG autocorrelator you can see if the phase is flat ans what the pulse length is, but you'd still have to make assumptions on the pulse shape. A FROG or GRENOUILLE can give the full intensity/time or phase/time profile of a pulse.
