Hi, my friends! This is Applycooler, a beginner of laser pointer (came here just yestertoay). Now I'm interested in laser pointer, but I can't get help from my friends in HK for laser pointer is not so popular here. So I want to get some help for internet. Today I find an article "Complete guide to buying a Laser", after reading the acticle, I am even more confussed.:
Complete guide to buying a Laser - The LaserWiki, this is the link of the article.
Now, I have many many questions about laser pointer.
Firstly, I wouder, what's the relationship of laser and sailing or boats? They seem to be competely different things of no relationship, but the article mentions boats again and again, then I am puzzeled again and again! My god, you can't imagine the feeling.:confused::confused:::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown

secondly, I have no idea what's Serial number and Age. If i order a laser , will it come with Serial number and Age??
thirdly, Could you recommend a laser for a beginner? green, blue or red? 1mw,5mw or 15mw?
many many questions are still in my mind, I am nearly crazy!
My friends, did feel just the same with me when you were a beginner?
your reply will be appreciated!:bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown::bowdown:

Heh. Apparently there's a brand or type of sailboat called 'laser'

If you want to know about real lasers, just poke around this forum and read everything you can.

A pointer is anything 5mw and under. These are generally safe to do whatever you want with since people will blink before it destroys their eyes. If these are what you are interested in, any number of green or red pointers are available for under $20. Though watch out because some are labeled as 5m1 pointers while being at 20-50mw. That sounds great at first, until you realize that your uses have just been limited.

Things above 5mw are generally called portable lasers (not sure what this forum was originally for, but in general they don't discuss pointers much) They can look just like a pointer, though are often a bit different in design. The power ranges from just above 5mw to OMG IT MELTED MY FACE with infrared hand held lasers (invisible beam and faint dot) over 4000mw. The issue though is that being over 5mw they have the potential to do permanent eye damage and at the high end set things on fire and do eye damage just from looking at the dot without protection. If these are your interest you should start by reading up on the safety issues and making sure you have enough money to buy a pair of safety goggles with your first laser.

I already told you. There is a type (or manufacturer) of sailboats called laser. That guide to buying a laser is a guide to buying a laser sailboat.
