Is there a way we can protect ourselves from the fda meddling in lasers? If they are leaving us alone then maybe, just maybe, the lowly workers of the fda will do a little better protecting us from hazardous food and drugs. Sorry I hate how corrupt the FDA is, but my point is to ask if there's a way to type up a new tos.

Technically by visiting a website you agree to their terms of service, NOT just by registering. So can c0ld add preventive measures against them. We're not doing illegal things. Maybe stuff the fda doesn't like because the crooks don't feel like protecting us but not illegal.

And I am getting this information based on some reason laws and court rulings I have read on engadget I think and various other websites.

Although we had a few letters, and Matt had a visit, nothing really happened. As long as you are not selling complete lasers on a web page, there is nothing to sweat. IMO a small price to pay to let us keep playing with our lasers. And for you, who does not even build or sell lasers, you have no problems at all. So don't sweat the small stuff.

I think it's a good idea that lasers are regulated in the US. With better enforcement of existing laws, perhaps less people would feel inclined to point their high-powered portable lasers at aircraft or other people.. I know most people here can be trusted to do so, but not everyone who owns a high-powered pointer can..

Hey... WL made their Lasers FDA compliant by adding a pseudo Mini Phone Jack
Safety Interlock and an LED.
That's not rocket science....:cool:

As much as it makes this hobby a hassle with the laws in such, I am actually glad to see these laws in place to prevent idiots from obtaining high powered lasers. Just a couple weeks ago I was at a football game where some kid was pointing a WL Phoenix in everybody's eyes. Just think if these were easily available in stores around here.

Do not forget, they also had to apply for the ascension numbers, and that you too will need to do if you want to make and sell lasers lawfully in the USA. -Glenn

Ehhh I just didn't like the thought of some people being threatened. And I guess just protection for our website? I think 18+ is a good idea, but I do think the laws could be a little more lax. Why oh why do people hit airplanes

I was upset with the FDA at one point. But I learned how to get lasers, it seems to be a good thing that people who shouldn't have lasers be screened out, even though the fda annoys the crap out of people.

On a side note... who would crash a plane because they saw a laser beam? Wonder kind of pilots are they hiring...

Hey I agree about being shined in the face. So is that what caused those plane crashes, during the landing? I thought they were high near the clouds. I figured that flashes of lightning would be the same as a laser but I don't know.

I've flown in lightning and it isn't the same as a green blast in the face on landing. It may not blind you but a botched landing is bad news for the pilot because he is the first one to feel the impact :-(

Those people who thought it was a good idea to purposely blind a pilot during the landing cycle should be charged for attempted murder :(

To my knowledge, there have been no actual accidents involving aircraft and lasers, it's more about making sure it never happens. Flash-blindness would be an obvious problem if you're trying to land a plane.

Let me ask this, how does Jack get away with what he does? Being based in the U.S.. I don't want to put the website down just incase some FDA, FBI wannabe is lurking, but you guys know who I'm talking about.
