Of course you do, you're under 18. Sorry to say but there are far more morons than responsible people out there. So the responsible people have to suffer. It's always been this way. You dont have to like it, but that is the facts, and there is nothing you can do to change it.

well a credit card could be used there is a math equation to make sure they are real.
but that could be their parents.
I think were going to have to go for a pic with a handwritten message and a pair of laser safety goggles.
This way we know you are protected. a 12yr can be safer with a laser than a 18yr as long as he has safety glasses, for himself at least but we can only do so much.

handwritten message and goggle?

Don't think so. I'm 25 and do not own any laser safety goggles. It may be a poor decision but it's just that. My decision.
A person doesn't have to be responsible. They just have to be responsible for their actions. Which I am.

I do agree however that 1000mW lasers should not be in the hands of a 13 year old. But there is no way to prevent that. This forum is a source of information, not a Laser retailer.

Knowledge of lasers and the way they work, is the only real preventative of danger(We get that knowledge on LPF). If someone knows what they can do and are "willing" to apply that knowledge in a safe manner then all is well. Many times, it is an "unwilling" individual that creates a hazard for themselves and others. There are uninformed individuals and then there are the ones who just don't want to do the right thing with a powerful laser.

i would not risk my eyes even if i was confident enough to say i was responsible. there are a lot of things you dont think are that reflective until something happens. not saying this will happen but if i lost one eye there goes my depth perception and sight on that side of my face.

The safest bet would be a waiver. "I verify I am over the age of 18 and release the seller from any and all fault related to the purchase of or my usage of ________. I Recognize that this item is purely for use as an un-powered model. Any damages that result from powering it on are my own responsibility"

Stick a warning sticker over the top electrode they have to remove before powering it on.

Probably wouldn't hold up in court but it might discourage them from trying to sue in the first place.

I don't think age is a good representation of one's responsibility.
Is 18 the magic age where people start to be responsible with lasers?

I know someone 24 years old who shot her friend in the butt with a .22 pen gun because she "wanted to see what would happen."

I think I wont sell lasers I tired to sell one to a 40 year old who with in 5 sec of having it in hand shined it at me, at his dog, and cars, AFTER I GAVE HIM A SAFETY BRIEFING, I almost punched him. Any way you got a point you can't say your responsible because your 50 but if you sell a laser to an adult and he hurts someone, his problem. If you sell to a minor and he hurts himself or someone, your problem and lawsuit. My 2c if you sell a diode and the minor makes a laser well good from him, unless he or she is 4 and chokes on the diode.

AS far as I know, you should not openly sell lasers in the US unless they meet code, and we all know most don't. You can sell a kit and they can't do anything....yet.

If you sell with a minimum age disclaimer, it would be near impossible for a parent of someone underage to successfully sue you for a laser mishap.

necro threads are like this to me, never forget the past or make the same mistake in the future :p I necro sometimes to but to be fair if he started a new thread on it, tell me ppl wont freak and tell him that he should have used search and this has already been discussed:tinfoil::tinfoil: or is that just ppl you don't like(joke), I am not sure how a disclaimer works by law, don't most places use some 3rd part service to check you age and name? like uumm vericheck or something. Or is that just for porn.
