Hey guys,

Well I have a bit of money to spend and would like some advice, I have two options:

A/ Purchase everything I need to build a Blue-ray laser (PHR-803T HD DIODE) from stonetek + goggles from wickedlasers total of $109 or £75.22

B/ Buy a X25 Compact Portable green Laser for $99 or £67

Not really sure what to do, I like the idea of having a good quality bright green laser, but I also like the idea of building the violet laser.

Any advice or ideas?

thanks,

-Ash

I say go for the blue ray.

Do you know that the first laser I ever built completely on my own, and the first diode I ever harvested was a 6x blu ray laser back when they were 300 bucks just for the diode? Just take your time and be careful. Everyone starts somewhere.

If you don't feel comfortable assembling your blu ray parts, I do assembly work at a very reasonable price, and I have diodes and heatsinks on hand.

If you're located in the US I can sell you an 80mW CNI laser (Similar to the X Series, but without the clip and some scratches) for $70 shipped.

I'd do a blu-ray, but only cause I like it.
Take your time and look around the forum. If you go blu-ray you'll want a PHR. They are cheap, $10-$15 in the Buy, Sell, Trade section. You can set it up to 120mW which will burn stuff.

If you go green go here for the module.
50mW: http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=882
100mW: http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=909
150mW: http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=886

Check the links in my sig for finding host/heat sink and driver options. Take your time and make a plan. You could make a decent laser for under $100 with some minor soldering.

Hosts, batteries, and chargers can be found here..https://www.dealextreme.com

Good luck and happy lasing.

wow thanks guys for all the replys I apreciate it.

Just so you know I have spent the last 2 weeks doing EXTENSIVE research into everything, i figured if I was going to be spending $100 on parts I should get it right. I think I will stick with the PHR diode because I would like to get as many parts as I can from the one place to save delivery confusions etc.

I have also looked into building my own heatsink, I am going to give it a try but im going to purchase the black horse dorcey jnr one just incase things dont work out :)

Well blueray here we come :D

If you want, I just got stock of some PHR diodes, which I am selling off at $13.50 including shipping to the US, complete with extraction from the heatsink and PCB removal, or if you need an Aixiz module and the diode pressed into it, $17. If you are interested, feel free to PM me.

I'm in the UK, and I apreciate the links but I will be sticking with stonetek.

It will cost me £58  ($84) to purchase:

PHR-803T HD DIODE removed from sled 405nm

Aixiz Diode Housing Module

Custom Heatsink for Dorcy Junior

FlexDrive Boost Driver

I think that is all I need (not getting a host). I think I could get it cheaper but I can get everything from one place so I know it'll all arrive at the same time.

If you never owned ANY laser, get a good greenie so you can learn how to take care of it before jumping to building your own one.
If you want to build something, get an O-Like module and mod a host.
