So this may be a dumb question, but I couldn't find an answer by searching...

So with C6 host I'm messing with I would like to somehowe adhear the driver to the inside of the host, my question is that I have never thermal glued a driver before, and although the paste is non-conductive, will getting the paste over the components of the driver hurt? Or will attaching the driver to the inside barrel of the host short circut anything ? I know ideally a circular driver would be nice, but these are just some spare parts I'm messing around with.

Thanks in advance !

Except on top of the pill (or inside it if you drilled it out) or inside the heat sink there's not really a lot of space in a C6 to place the driver

Paste on the components will not harm it, with one caveat

Thermal paste is really only designed to be used as a thin layer between parts
If you have a thick layer between parts, you really have a fair heat insulator built
If you "bury" the driver in thermal paste, it will hold more heat than it can carry away

When using thermal paste to attach the driver to the host, you DO have to be aware of potential shorts
This is especially true on a curved surface
Just be mindful of the placement of conductive components

there is a video on how to make a C6 laser in the yellow link in my signature. its pretty basic and simple. 17/16.8mm round drivers are key for C6 builds

Smaller drivers like the flexdrive and maybe the X-boost mini can also be installed INSIDE the pill

If you drill the top of the pill out, you have the space from the back of the diode to the top of the battery contact disc for longer drivers to fit

true. isnt there a shortage of x-boosts right now? looks like cajun has some but very limited outputs.

you can get pre-drilled pills from survival laser

Yeah, I find i usually drill out a nice sized slit to slip the driver into the pill.

In this pic, you see the driver sticking through the bottom of the pill. The blue stuff is sugru hacking puddy that i put all around to help prevent shorts.

I find this gives just enough room to fit it together.
