Hey guys, can anyone tell me if an 8X DVD-RW is the 8X diode that we all have been looking for ? Thanks, rob

It's not.

The 8x diode we all want refers to the 8x blu-ray diode.

An 8x DVD-RW is just like a 16x (Stonetek) diode except a lot weaker.

Crap, LOL.... OK, thanks for the info. BTW, are 16X DVD-RW, CD-RW or DVD-ROM diodes worth anything ? What exactly is the 6X or 8X designation that's valuable, is it a DVD-RW, CD-RW, or what????? Thanks for the help..............rob

Am I being trolled or something?

How long have you been here? I thought you'd have known this already...

Anyways, CD drives have 780nm infrared diodes, DVD drives have 650nm red diodes, and bluray drives have 405nm violet diodes. Reader drives will have much weaker diodes than burners, and the faster the write speed of the burner (the "X" number), the stronger the laser diode will be. (in general... there are exceptions)

So, a DVD reader will have a very weak diode, probably only capable of 10mW or so.. A 8x DVD burner will have a lower powered red diode, maybe capable of 100mW if you're lucky... A 16x DVD burner will have a more powerful red diode, capable of around 200mW... A 22x DVD burner will have an even more powerful diode, capable of some 300mW...

Seriously you didn't already know this?

I'm also surprised that he didn't know that with 2000 posts. maybe he is more interested in other things like scanners or something and he never read the diode posts?

@ PSEUDOLOBSTER,Thanks for makin' me feel more like an idiot than I already did, (j/k) but also thank you for the info. with all the acronyms that float around on this Forum, with the heavy medication I have to take, I'm lucky I can remember my own initials. Seriously, I HAVE TO have a book with the riot of acronyms, not only on this site, but my passwords to all the other sites I belong to. I'd be lost without that book. It also contains the Forum names, REAL names & addresses of everybody that I do business with so I don't forget who is who. Laugh if you must, but it's what I've had to resort to, but I think it's not TOO bad of a trade-off when the alternative is NO MEDS, & bed confinement & wheelchair, doncha think so, I sure do.
@HALLUCYNOGENYC, 1st I don't have 2000 posts, I think you were lookin' at the year I became a Member of the Forum.
2nd, it's hard enough for me to try to keep laser stuff kinda untangled. LORD only knows what would happen if I threw scanners & all the other laser RELATED stuff that this Forum covers into the mix. Crap, I'd have to get ANOTHER BOOK just for THAT stuff.
@ Anyone else who answered this post. I appreciate any & all the info. that was put forth for my benefit, & I thank you all for taking the time to answer my "STUPID" question. I was taught that to learn, one must ask questions, so I do. I'm just regretful that the MEDS that keep me up-right & mobile, also affect my memory like they do. I'm not upset over any comments you guys made, I even tried to joke about them, but I DO HAVE THAT BOOK or I'd be lost without it. I just thought I'd clear the air a bit so you all don't think I'm lazy or just plain ignorant, I'm neither, just MEDICATED, sorry.......................rob

Phonnix,

Go easy on those folks, they are young enough to be our kids. :yh: I know about the memory thing, it gets worse for me every year. Soon I will need your book too. LOL ;)

@ SPORTCOUPE, Who the F**K is PHONNIX??????? (J/K)

@ PSEUDOLOBSTER, If it came out sounding like I was P O'd, it wasn't meant to. I was only trying (I guess unsuccessfully) to sorta inject some levity in my response. Must try harder next time.

To all concerned: I did NOT have any of my feelings hurt by ANYONE'S responses. I'm pretty thick skinned & can take a joke as WELL AS dish them out, SO BEWARE !!!!!! Just Kidding.......rob

I can see how this can happen some of the internet store kinda have some screwy ways of highlighting some DVD-rom DVD-rw specs...

Not all stores, but most. I think there is some simple deception there...:)
