alright, i can't figure out the 555 timer from radio shack by looking at the package, anyone know of a good tutorial that explains the wiring and how everything works?

i've no clue how your suppose to set them or anything

Yup, lots of info out there. Can only offer general help since we don't know what you need to do with the timer.

is a 555 timer circuit...

I'm presuming this is a "delayed startup" system? If so, then you want a monostable circuit design.

delayed startups are best done with caps..

the 555 timer can be used as a LD driver DC pulse source.

Good for making a pulsed laser driver.

Sorry I just had to share that... anyhoo, what is it you are trying to do M? Post the circuit, 555s are great chips I have used dozens of them for different devices.
