I have not verified this myself, but do you have a link with some pics of the TrueDX50's guts? Does it have a 9mm diode? Any info on the current?

Lasers get sorted according to power after they are built, so it is possible. The power difference between 50 and 200 are not far from what i measured with different alignments.


What i did to my DX 150 was I took the crystal and collimator off of a DX 5 module, then retrofitted it onto the 150 because I had focus/mode problems on my 150.  You shouldn't have any problem unscrewing the brass fittings from a DX 5 module and screwing it back onto your DX 50.  It might help.  I had to break the glue holding the first lens off and re-align it using superglue and a tooth pick.  
Wait.. You put the crystals from a 5mW into a 150mW? And they survived? Do you perhaps know the output power?

Did you have a hard time aligning them with the pump diode?

Hey, I actually tried mounting the IR pump diode from a DX200 that mode hopped really bad, in a Merideth glass lens housing and then re connected the driver board to it. After putting on the IR safety glasses, I attempted to burn a hole through black craft paper. It worked great at 6" or so, but beyond that, it will not focus to a dot any more and is pretty worthless.
On the other hand, the 780nM diodes from CD and DVD burners focus very well just like the 650nM red diodes, but you really need something to view the IR with in real time or it is almost impossible to know where it's aiming or how well it is focused! I use a night vision scope with a pinhole in the dustcover to view the IR.

i use my dig camera to see the ir, adn my dx true 50mw, is putting alot of ir out.

Wait, I lied! Now since I think about it, I wasn't able to retro fit the crystal because the brass housing are different via the different diode. I tried, but gave up! I'm sorry I lied! If I did that, I would have a working DX 150 right now! I retrofited just the collimator (which was quite difficult). I have however adjusted a crystal in a DX 30, simply screw it up or down.

And I'm pretty sure the DX 50 is the same as the 30, and I know the 30 uses a closed diode.
