50mW 532nm Without googles?

Hi, I recently ordered a 50mW 532nm laser, and I do not intend to buy safety/protection googles. I am aware of the reflectives surfaces, I do not intend to burn nor point the laser at >10SI(m). Anyways, i'm only into shooting the beam at far distances and up the sky, should I worry?
Also, just to be aware could a 0.5sec eye strike blind you?
And I heard something about being unable to see the beam with googles, could you explain a bit better?

Thank you-
hampster

50mW laser could easily blind you under 0.5sec..

If you won't buy goggles, you shouldnt use the laser inside...

And if you look the laser with goggles, you'll only see a tiny (orange) dot, no beam.

Well i enjoy lasers without goggles ( obviously)

With 50mW you don't really need googles when shooting the laser away from yourself outside , just make sure you never hit cars airplanes buildings ect ect

What a about if accidentaly the beam hits a reflective surface like at 50;100;200m , will the reflected beam be just as eye letal as the principal beam?

After that distanse you don't really have to worrie about reflections
( 50 meter i doubt )
just avoid windows , they act like mirrors

@TuhOz holy sh** then... the power of blinding people in less than a second shouldn't be holded by a human ^^

typical divergence of a green laser: 1mrad. after 100 meter: 100mm beam diameter, or ~80cm^2. Considering 1mW/cm^2 is roughly a safe value, try not to hit anything closer than 50 meter (that's 50 meter both ways). Within 25 meter gives 20cm^2, at 50mW I wouldn't risk that just to be safe.
Pointers are inherently unstable, so be very carefull. I prefer to mount lasers stable.

Well, what about if ocasionally, i really want to shoot the beam at close distances, what if i cover my eyes with the digital camera LCD? and that way, i can still see the beam..

The beam will not harm your eyes indoor unless it reflects of a glossy/reflective surface.

Matte walls are fine, just don't do it for too long.
