473nm or 589nm diode?

lets just say hypothetically one day in the near future the technology finally has been created at an affordable price. Instead of making this a long question. I am very curious as to what you all would rather have or spend your money on.
Would you rather have a 300mw 473nm diode for handheld hosts.
Or a 300mw 589nm diode for a handheld host?
They were gonna create just one, what would you rather have? This is a difficult question for me because I would have to think about this.

Definitely 473nm. I don't like yellow and this is also the reason why I bought a class IV 07E instead of save up for a DPSS 589nm. :p

Difficult question...... I would say probably 589nm. Don't get me wrong, 473nm is a beautiful color, but I find 589nm to be quite a little better looking. I don't know if anyone else can see this, but to me 473nm is a shade a blue with a little bit of greenish tinge to it. Anyone else?

Also, with a portable 300mW 589, you'd always have sunshine whenever you want it :D

We already have diodes close to 473nm, but not even near 589nm.

It also depends on beam quality.

Not much point in 473nm when we already have 465+nm diodes. 589nm by far.

Id take option 3 which isn't one you proposed. But an affordable 300mW 488 nm would be great some day and is possible. But to answer the actual question 589. Like was said we already have diodes that will achieve 473.

By far 589nm. 470nm - which we already have - is close enough to make 473 pointless. But we don't have any yellow diodes at all.

Very good point! The only thing which would warrant getting a true DPSS 473nm laser over a pushed 465nm diode is beam quality. That being said, many people have come to realize that when it comes down to the price these 465nm diodes make a great deal! :yh:

473. As some have said, there is a close one but you need to be in the multiple watt range to get it near 473 and the beam quality sucks. Unless the beam quality is good, I don't want it.

Yeah I'm gonna have to agree, I think that's what I would go with also. And since those 07Es can hit 470nm then that's actually incredibly close :)

Yeah as I was telling eclectic plasma I totally forgot about that 07E. It's already very close, a 488 would actually be good

Getting 300mW of 589nm would make my day whatever has happened. I think this question would be a lot harder if you had to choose out of pure 490nm or 580nm.
Even so sodium/golden yellow is a best of both colours (yellow/orange) with hints of just the right amount of yellow over the orange.

589nm by far. You could knife-edge a bunch of them together and make your very own laser guide star! (Not really sure what purpose it would serve though, seeing as I don't own a telescope with adaptive optics.)

I'm not sure how anyone could/would choose anything but 589nm.

Yeah, though I like the blue-green area more than 589nm, something that doesn't exist yet is more appealing.

That said, I would really love something in the 595-615nm range (deeper orange).

I had a feeling I wouldn't be the only one. Sure yellow is rare, but is that all that makes it desirable? I personally like the colour of 473 much more than 589, if I would even like 589 at all. Call me odd but I find it a bit of a nasty colour
