It's a wonder it didn't burn a hole in his wall! At that power it shouldn't matter if the surface is white or not. However, it's odd that you don't see a solid beam until the pliers start smoking.....even my modest 95mw greenie has a visible beam in a lit room at night. Obviously the laser is putting out close to 40 watts but it seems like it should be brighter...like so bright all the camera could record is an overwhelming green glow everywhere that washes everything out.

Anyone ever see a green laser in this power range in person up close? Does it look like this or is it much brighter (if you dared look around without goggles!)?

Definitely from miles away. I've heard of 20 watts in some big shows but never 40.
I'm sure you could make the money back with a beam show like no other. Literally.

Come to think of it, there are some second hand on ebay that SUGGEST conversion for laser shows. And $6000 seems to be the cheapest they get.
So when I've saved up for a good few years I have the option of getting a second hand car or the most powerful laser scanner in the country if not the world.

I've heard of 532nm in excess of 90W used in laser projection and I'm sure there's been much more than that. The laserscope ktp has been adapted for lasershow purposes in the past, but its quite difficult. You need BIG mirrors - so therefore, slow projection - good for a beam show perhaps, but not projection. The beam specs of a laserscope ktp really are far from lasershow quality.

there are telescopes u can put on the laserscope to bring the beam width down

Yep, but that would only end up sending the divergence skyrocketing. Might as well just wave around a bright green flashlight at that point

yea but i did not mean telescope in the normal sence of the word

else it would be a 40 watt green torch

there are special lens assemblies to bring the beam size down for the laserscope for some reason there refered to as telescopes no idea why

I have seen what a 25w, 1064nm YAG-laser can do. It set a white paper on fire in seconds while scanning large letters!

With many many watts of green does it really matter if the specs are bad? I expect them to be bad the whole way, but does it really matter with that much beam?
Wouldn't expect anything but a beamshow though, just set things on fire otherwise.

Just look at 2:10 when he says "BAM!" and then at 2:13 when he turns it back down again right before the camera adjusts the brightness to really see the difference between 1-2W and >35W.
