1W 405nm laser burning from 90 feet away !!! test update in post 9

Re: 1W 405nm laser burning from 90 feet away !!!

I have not seen anyone see how far the 1w 405 single mode diode can burn at.
I set the laser on my porch and shinned it over the pool on to the shed door. distance is about 80-90 feet. i then held my wallet up to the door and after 5 seconds it started smoking !!! here is my video :)

WOW! I didn't think that was possible. That is a small dot at that distance, what lens are you using? Remember not to leave that thing on for too long, that's too far to run back and forth, you might burn out your laser.

It was awesome. I think its the g2 but it may be 3 element. I had the laser in front of an ac vent for ten minutes before i did this. It was still cold when i turned it off. I had it on for just under two minutes. I ran fast lol

Edit: i asked tmack he said it has the g2 lens

I have got to get one of these. I have the older S06J 12X, these newer BDR-209 are looking better all the time. You should see how far away you can pop a balloon.

Update: I tested it with a 3 element lens and holy crap. i have never seen such low divergence ever. Here are 2 pictures at 90 feet with a cd case as the background with a dime taped it for size comparison. there not the clearest picture as it is dark out. i will do another burning test tomarrow. btw after i took the two pictures the laser has been on for about 1 minute and i noticed it was boring a hole into the cd case at 90 feet. the dot is only like 4-5mm lol. i believe i could light a match at 90 feet

the first one was taking throught crap laser googles. i had the eagle pair on my face :)

Re: 1W 405nm laser burning from 90 feet away !!!

That is a wicked divergence indeed. I love the 3-element glass lenses. Less of that weird splash.

Re: 1W 405nm laser burning from 90 feet away !!!

Wow, Nice video. And as i said on CPF that is some bad ass divergence!!

16X BDR-209 diode added to the list!! And only $69 for the diode! That is such a great price! That's awesome.. Plus a C11 for $45 That's an incredibly cheap long distance burner!

Only 4 build's I have to complete before I start this one!

the measure strip is in cm and the small lines are mm. the first one is at 6 feet and the other is at 90 feet. i get 2.5mm at 6 feet and 3mm at 90 feet lol
thats 0.019528808896405042 mrad haha. this is with 3 element lens the g2 lens dot is about 2.5 times larger so still very small

Nice! What is probably happening is your beam is originally slightly convergent and the focus is out close to 40 feet or something and only after that does it diverge. Still very impressive!

i was thinking that might be the case. i guess i need more like 300 feet to get infinity focus. its hard

Nice job with the focusing. What is the divergence that you got at that far?

its very hard to get the infinity focus because the point of infinity is very small. but im going to say divergence is about .1 -.2 mrad although i think it might be even less.

Many times we get asked for the best burner AND easy to see beam, but those lasers
are made from unobtainium so almost none exist--

Of all the visible wavelengths 405 is IMO the most dangerous.
I added a 50+mW 405 pen as a gift in an order.
The buyer was quick to email me in thanks for the extra goodies.
BUT... he wrote me this: ' It must have an almost dead battery-I could not see the beam well....SO I gave it to my kids to 'play' with.'--

I happened to be on-iine so I got the message when he sent it-- & of course I told him that was a very dangerous thing to do.

AND once again I must say- THERE ARE NO LASERS SAFE FOR KIDS TO PLAY WITH.

It sends the wrong message -- keep all your lasers locked upwhen you are not using them.
Anything less is at best, poor judgment--

Bad news guys. i guess while i was switching lens i got something on the diode window and did not realize it. i turned it on and what ever it was burned right to the window. Tmack said he might be able to save it by decaning it
