I also saw this one at o-like that seems interesting:

Power Rock Green laser Torch 50mW /Focusable&Waterproof [OL-MRGL50] - $36.99

Are these guys really 50mW or over/underspeced?

Does it also have good IR filter like the WL?

Overspecs?
O-like ???
lol?

Chances are its going to be underspecs by 20-30% .
Thus giving you around 30-20mW

As for the IR filter , well it should pretty much be industrial standard , but then again its a tad hard to say whether the filter quality is up to specs , but I've ordered a few IR filters from them and if they fit what they've sent me .
There shouldn't be an IR leak problem.

I like these hosts from o-like. My main concern is the slightly higher power than I was looking for. At this power these are likely to start burning no?

If I use it indoors but not point it at mirrors will I still need goggles? Or just needed in case of no IR filter?

if you use it indoors.
ANY laser above Class I as in below 5mW , goggles are A MUST!

WITH or WITHOUT filters .
I say again.

YOU WILL NEED GOGGLES if you use your lasers indoor , YOU WILL NEED OD 4+ , CE CERTIFIED GOGGLES!
You only get ONE pair of eyes.

Just pointing it at walls, no mirrors?

For example customer service at WL said their 15mW Nano was usually too underpowered to be a problem without glasses, unless someone pointed it directly at the eyes at close range. This is not true?

Even at 5mW , if you don't blind and look away within a few seconds of being hit by the laser , you WILL be causing permanent damage

If you point it at a wall , there are less documentation regarding the reflected diffuse radiation .

The main reason for this is that the wall spreads out the light significantly. If the laser beam were to bounce off of a mirror, it would remain a narrow beam, and could still potentially harm your eye if you stared into it and managed to suppress your blink reflex. However, when the beam bounces off a rough surface like a wall, the reflected light is no longer a beam. Instead, it begins to spread out in the shape of a hemisphere as it propagates away from the wall.

You can tell that the reflected light is spreading out in this way because the spot looks the same on the wall no matter where you are in the room. That means it is reflecting equal amounts of light in all directions. By contrast, if you look directly at the source of the laser (which I do not recommend) you will find it is significantly brighter the closer you get to looking straight into the beam.

We can estimate how much less light hits your eye when looking at the laser spot on a wall (versus looking into the laser itself) by comparing the area over which the light is spread out. When the light first hits the wall, it is all concentrated in a narrow beam, with a diameter around a few millimeters. That gives it an area of roughly 7 square millimeters.

After bouncing off the wall, the beam spreads out to fill a hemispherical surface. At a distance of 1 meter, this hemisphere would have an area of over 6 million square millimeters. If you are even farther away, the area will continue to increase as the square of the distance, and correspondingly the intensity hitting your eye will continue to decrease.

In conclusion, the intensity of light hitting your eye when looking at the spot on the wall from 1 meter away is easily on the order of 1 million times smaller than the intensity if you looked directly into the beam.

But how do you ensure the laser won't clip on other objects indoors ?
How do you ensure the surface is matte ?

Don't take any chance when using lasers above 5mW indoors.

IF you like the look of it get the higher powered one and get googles , the 5mw is basically a cat play toy to chase around almost all my keychain reds that i play with for my cat to chase around are 3 to 7 mW (i wouldnt use a laser any more than a key chain laser as a cat play toy ever)you really have to try hard to get a laser less than 3 to 5mW LPM that's a standard green or red

Getting a high powered laser is easy . getting one that is SPECIFICALLY below 15mW is hard

I might purchase a high powered one and a low power just to use indoors. The problem with the low powered greens is that their hosts always look horrible.

Think of lasers as beer mugs .

If you are just gonna go use it for Budlight or Budweiser , chances are you're going to have a crappy beer mug

BUT!

If you are gonna drink some micro brew like a TRUE gentlemen .
You are going to have an AWESOME BEER MUG!

OR those o-like folks could just sell their Power Rock host from the 50mW with a 5mW diode inside just for me. haha
