150mW laserland red for rgy project

i was looking into building a red, green, and yellow laser i know i need a turning mirror atleast im pretty sure. i bought a 50mW from laserlands a while back and now i need a red and ive been looking for a review and cant seem to find one for this laser----->Industrial 150mW Red Laser Module Diode w/ Driver in - eBay (item 110501128463 end time Apr-29-10 22:06:28 PDT) has anyone ever bought this model and used it? also would it be a problem if i combine a 50mW and a 150mW would the red overpower the green? or is it that the wattage is a matter of "punch" or power the laser has? if you could be of any help it would be much appreciated.

Quite the opposite, a 50 mW green will easily overpower a 150 mW red. With green appearing much brighter to the human eye, my 50 mW green blocks out even 200 mWs of red.

You will either need to get a lower powered green (20 mW~) or a higher powered red.

so you think when they're combined it wont be yellow? have you ever combined your beams before? oh yeah and what i plan to do is pulse drive both lasers opposite of each other so fast that the beam will seem yellow and once you put it through a spirograph it will be split into red and green again hopefully.

It all depends on the laser and your optics, but a general rule to create yellow is: 650nm (red) needs to be 7-10X as strong as 532nm (green)
Why go to all the trouble and expense of using pulse drives? A much easier and cheaper way is to use a Beam Combiner.
Point the red and the green into the B/C and out comes yellow.
You would need several hundred $$ worth of electronics to be able to fine tune the yellow color using Pulse-width modulation.
EDIT: I just re-read your post and it seems you are talking about building a scanner, if so, then that's a different story.

im going to get a beam combiner out of a phr sled. and ONCE i combine beams i will pulse the lasers fast enough to "appear" yellow but since thats just a line it will look yellow but since the motors on a spirograph are moving it across a distance the line will dashed red and green and red but as soon as a move to higher speeds on the same distance the dashes will get smaller and will eventually be yellow. that is my theory and ofcourse always being able to just turn the colors on and off. i just wasnt sure about combining because i heard of green over powering red and you kinda cleared that up. i have a 50mW right now and for a 150mw red i should be aiming for a like a 20 or 30mW green? oh and its not difficult at all to pulse drive lasers if you have a basic understanding of electronics.

Just in case there was any confusion, (and I'm sure there isn't), there are a couple of threads that may be useful to check out.

The first one shows the internals of PHR sled really well and the part you're looking for, to combine the red and green, is labelled number 1. There are other more comprehensive threads with better explanations but the pic is clear enough.

The second thread to check out is the, "White Fusion", thread. This has a great little bit about colour mixing at various output powers. It should be a good source of info regards choice of lasers for you project.

Check the "reviews" section. There is a review for a yellow laser that uses a green and red combined to produce the color. The member took it apart and measured the individual beam powers. Should give you a good idea of the powers to set yours at.

ok thanks guys i will be checking more threads out today but not for the whole night because my freind is helping me mount my hdd galvos and hopefully machining some mirror mounts for dc motors :drool:
