Hey LaserPointerForums,

I'm new here, just registered. I want to make a 1W blue laser pointer, because I bought one 200MW laser and it didn't come through because of restrictions. I have found some links by KipKay. I don't understand how it would turn on because I don't think a button comes with it.

So guys, Can you please check these thinks and tell me what more things I need for this laser. I want it to be a handheld laser not one powered by a machine thing.

Diode: Here.
Kit: Here.

The Laser Diode is an 808nm IR (Infra-Red) diode. You will not
be able to see the beam profile let alone the beam

The Kit is a LD Driver for 445nm Laser Diode. I have no specs
on the output current.

You will need to do a little research and reading on the Forum
to get up to speed. For instance I don't think you bought a
200MW (MegaWatt) Laser but perhaps a 200mW (milliWatt)
laser...

You can check out the Laser build Tutorials and the Buy/Sell/Trade
sections on the Forum.

Hmm, Well I really want a 1W blue burning laser. Can you link me to a good site to get cheaper items off. I dont wanna spend like 100-200...

You're going to have to spend that much for a 1W blue. Lazerer just came through with a wonderful Rifle Series for $170 shipped for me.

I can't get one shipped as I said, because of the law. Thats why I need to make one, and I wan't to make one as well for experience.

But it's mainly for the laser, So I want a list of parts that I need for it.

I've been looking at these 2 things and they look like it would work. All I need is a button to be able to turn it on.

Amazon.com: 808nm 1000mw High Power Laser Diode: Everything Else

Amazon.com: AixiZ 445nm laser module assembly kit (no diode): Everything Else

Tempting, isn't it? I actually just had this same thought last week, but after looking at the parts and their specs, it turns out that driver will kill that diode. Not to mention that a first build shouldn't be infrared, since you can't see it to get the focusing right. I was going to build an IR, but changed my mind.

You can see my question and the awesome reply I got in my thread Over here

You MIGHT be able to find someone local, or perhaps someone that would be able to send you the parts all separately, but the 1W diode you'd need is at least ~$45-50, not to mention a host being anywhere from $10-75, then batteries, drivers, modules and heatsinks. Your best bet (I'd guess), is to get in touch with other Aussie laserists, such as in the social group and ask them for part sources, or perhaps a quote on a finished laser already in Austrailia for you.

What part of the info I gave you in post #2 don't you understand....

I gave you info on the 2 items that you linked to...
I also gave you info on where to buy the parts that you
are looking for...

And you are still asking the same questions....:undecided:

If you don't want any info then don't ask....:cryyy:

Is it such a good idea to give this information to someone so new?....
1 watt of laser light isn't exactly something I'd go waving around...

I basically feel like you guys told him how to make a gun, and he has no viable proof of any previous laser experience.

Just my 2 cents.

Ahh, well compiled. You certainly did better than I could have! Have some rep for being awesome!

;)

You have a point, I hope a fellow aussie doesn't do anything stupid :)

1 watt? does it mean less harmful?

No. No it does not. 1 watt will blind you and then kill your dog just for fun.

While I support freely giving information, I want to be clear that no one's first laser of any serious power should be a 1 Watt. I didn't stress this enough, but I should have.

teresaswift is a TROLL....

I tend to agree with you pertaining to new members...
by his own posts.... it seem clear that this member has no
clue that you can not build a 1 Watt 445nm Laser with an
808nm Laser Diode even though it was pointed out twice...

I think he needs to do a lot more reading to get the
terminology right and learn of the dangers of any 1 Watt
Laser of any wavelength before he builds one...

Perhaps we should be pointing him to a 405nm PHR-803T
build first..

I dunno, frying a few $50 diodes might encourage a bit of reading up! :D

But seriously, that's why I'm terrified to build one. I still don't feel like I've read posts enough to make sure I set current correctly, check heatsinking, focus optics and so on and so forth. I keep seeing the same kind of posts I was so tempted to make when I started... Maybe I should start writing a start-to-finish manual for building a laser. Unless there's already one. Then I want a copy.

Patience, and start with constructing the lower powered phr lasers to get a feel for everything. First-hand experience is going to help you significantly for when you build the 1w laser that you want. :)
